DALLAS A series of shootings in the Dallas area killed at least four people and wounded four others, including at least two boys, but authorities said early Thursday that a suspect was in custody.
Police were first called to a home in southwest Dallas around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, where they found four gunshot victims, two of whom had died, Dallas police Sgt. Warren Mitchell told media outlets.
The suspect in that shooting fled to the nearby suburb of DeSoto, where he was involved in another shooting, Mitchell said.
At the second location, four other people were shot at a home, and two of them died, DeSoto police Cpl. Melissa Franks said, adding that officers arrived quickly and detained the suspect.
The two people wounded in DeSoto were boys, 11 and 13, Franks said.
The suspect tossed some type of explosive device into the home in DeSoto before opening fire, CBS Dallas station KTVT-TV reports.

Franks said police took the suspect into custody without incident at the house where the second shooting occurred. She identified him as Erbie Bowser, but said no charges have been filed yet.
Franks said police were also trying to determine what connection he had to the victims. He was brought to a jail in DeSoto.
But family members told KTVT-TV the suspect was looking for his former girlfriend at both of the houses he allegedly shot up.
The conditions of the four wounded victims weren't known early Thursday.
