Da Vinci reviews

I have just come back from seeing it, and I would say yes it is worth seeing, I enjoyed it. It kept me enthralled throughout even though I knew exactly what was going to happen. slight cuts in the plot, how did they work out they needed to go to the Zurich Bank? I know because its in the book, but if you hadnt read it you may wonder! Also only one cryptex (is that the right word!) rather than 2, but other than that very close to the book - slight changes I think for the screen rather than to change the story. It is a bit long - I was wishing the last 10-15 minutes away as I was desperate for the loo! but other than that great - but that is just my opinion. If we all liked the same then the world would be a boring place!

I saw the movie last night in proper anticipation. Tom Hanks, Ron Howard - Happy Days....or so I thought. As everyone has said 'much anticipated movie of the year!'. Boy did it suck. It would have been easier and cheaper to have had some guy sitting in an armchair and reading the book to us out loud. The budget for the stunt and special effects scenes must have been all of three and a half pence.

Tom was more woody than.....Woody!

Somehow I feel that although they may have duped millions to see this terrible film I suspect they are not going to make much money on the DVD release (once bitten-twice shy springs to mind).

Come on guys you could do better

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. I'm glad it stuck fairly closely to the book. I went with a friend who hadnt read the book and as I explained to her, some things were better in the book. But not all audiences have the same level of knowledge to pick up on the plot intricasies (sp) that are in the book so, the film sort of explained it along for you. I dont mean to offend the film going public. A couple of bits were too obvious ( i.e Teabings servant). Also if you hadnt read the book, you'd never quite understand what Silas was about and why he did what he did.
However, these are only my opinions. Whilst this isnt the best film I've ever seen, its certainly not the turkey its being made out to be.

I don't get all the fuss that these churchy types are making. Surely they should just forgive them their sins either way? Or does it only work for killers and rapists but not movie makers? Just a thought.

Well I enjoyed it. Sure the book isn't the greatest literary work, but it is a fun read. As for the film, not the greatest, but I certainly don't regret going. Audrey Tautou was good, and despite initially not being able to see Tom Hanks as Langdon, he actually worked out well.

I liked the fact that about a quarter of films dialogue was French. When French characters spoke to each other they spoke in French. Not your usual Hollywood film where they speak English but with a French accent.

Yes it was long, but it certainly wasn't boring and I didn't look at my watch once. Hubby felt that if you hadn't read the book you may have been a bit lost.

Perhaps it helps that the subject matter is right up my street, but I would recommend it.

guys,

I am not even half way through the book and quite interested so decided to go and see the film with the wife who has read the book.

It was a good film, certainly I am going to finish the book. I would have liked more facts quoted in the book that was not in the film. but maybe that would have lengthend an already long film.

The critics are totally wrong, its no way as bad as everybody says it is.

I dont know if people are wanting a car chase a minute, giant space ships trying to take over the world, darth vader, obi...........(not sure if its in the book but im not finished yet ).

I saw it tonight, never read the book though. Average at best. Saw every single "twist" and plot line way before it happened. There should be more movies that disspell the myth of religion.

Evolution = Proven FACT

My friend - a London reviewer - saw it at the multimedia (press) screening at Odeon, and says it was 2 and a half hours of his life he wants back.

Out of 35 reviews online now, 7 of them liked it...

Whoops!

Oh gawd, let's not go down this road... DVC is fiction, evolution is a fact and it has nothing to do with anything.

Have decided to see it tomorrow cos the missus wants to and am curious to make sense of the disparity between critics and public. Am expecting it to be poor, like Harry Potter 4, which was an incomprehensible mess of a film unless you read the book and could therfore supplant the myriad of storytelling blunders. A successful adaption would make events clear without spelling them out endlessly (as many have said DVC does), and still have a coherant central narrative that keeps people guessing / involved.

Incidentally, the only film I've ever seen that I really really liked but would say was never "a good film" is Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. As a stand alone film it's ghastly, but as a way of seeing the TV series from a totally different perspective it is brilliant.

Another hollywood film that do does not live up to the media hype.If you think its based on the truth you probably think that middle earth is real, that big foot exists and the lockness monster wasnt made up by the locals to get tourist to spend their money.Well im off to kill some orcs down in mordor, its true you know.

I went to see the film last night and quite enjoyed it.

I thought that the book was ok, fairly interesting concept which was reasonably well executed. I think you could say the same about the film.

I'm sure there were lots of technical things wrong with it but I reckon the first priority of any movie is to entertain and it certainly did that for me.

The problem with this movie was that the book was hyped beyond all reasonable level and that obviously got transfered to the film. When your put on such a high pedastall it's easy for people to knock you down.
