Plot Summary:

Based on the popular Shonen Jump manga by Katsura Hoshino, D.Gray-Man makes its debut tonight on japanese television. This thread will be used to discuss the episodes themselves and also how it is similar/different to the manga.

Note: I advise everyone not to say how you saw these episodes for obvious reasons. This is primarily a talkback for the episodes themselves. We don't want this thread locked...now do we?

Tonight's episode:

Episode 1 - The Boy Who Hunts Akuma

Have the first two manga volumes.

It jumps a lot between being creepy/cool and a ripoff of FMA. But FMA was good and it with a horror/gothic theme with a different plot should be good too.

So far ok. Only bad part is the monster designs. If they all are gonna look like that with similar abilities, it'll get old, really really fast.

Thanks EscaflownePilot for the image. I modified my original post to include it.

My thoughts on this episode:
- opening theme is okay...it will get stuck in your head, though. Didn't like the awkward breaks.
- ending theme started off okay but soon got pretty annoying with the high-pitched singing. If it wasn't for the next episode preview, I would've chosen to stop watching the show right as the ending credits start.
- So they made the Earl of Millenium sound like a badass old man. Funny, I expected him to sound like a lovey dovey lunatic. The voice is still good though.
- People mention that Allen Walker seems similar to Edward Elric. He looks more like Tsubasa from .hack//SIGN to me. In the manga, his appearance was similar to Edward Elric only with white hair sans braiRAB.
- I swear: Allen is a terminator. His eye which seeks Akumas looks just like a Terminator eye!
- Allen's anti-Akuma exorcist hand is so similar to the Witcrabroadlade it's not even funny.
- Excellent music! And since Konami are one of the sponsors, I wouldn't be surprised if their composers for Castlevania are working on this show too!
- pretty good fight scenes. Although I found Moore to be pretty annoying. I hope this is her first and last appearance on this show.
- The Akumas didn't look that good. They looked like overblown mines!
- The bride's name is "Crea"? In the manga, it was "Claire". Yet, in the anime, they spell her name as Crea. So, I guess that's how it is. Crea is still a weird name though.

The episode gets ***1/2/***** for me. This show looks like it can have the potential but it really neeRAB to find its identity or people will write it off as an FMA clone with Witcrabroadlade elements.

After all, Shonen Jump series have mediocre-average beginnings before they pick up steam. I'll see where this series will lead in future episodes.

It was alright, but I don't think it's good when you have to fast-forward some of the episode to get to the more interesting scenes.

The way Akuma are made sure is sad. I felt great remorse for Crea but at least she can rest in peace now.

Alright... exorcism and disturbing imagrey and overall atomospheric creepyness. It wasn't graphic but this one sure wont be airing on Toonami or even Jetstream. Like Death Note, it's Adult Swim or bust here.

I thought it was really great. Allen's voice was cute. I loved the opening and closing. I'm kind of suprised that they're skipping the next story that was in the manga but I understand why they'd do it.

Allen's voice was great. Very fitting of his character.

That Herald with the HUGE smile was delightfully creepy. Actually I'm pretty sure he was voiced by one of the hollows from Bleach.

You're talking about the Earl of Millennium, right?

I have a feeling that if the Earl of Millennium plays his carRAB right, he can become the newest popular villain in all of anime.
