I never really had any kind of acne when i was a teen. I might have a few pimples but nothing noticeable or major. When i hit my twenties about 21 i started getting red painful lumps on my cheeks. I was told i had cystic acne and i had to have shots in my face. WHen that didn't work i was put on a series of antibiotics and surprise they didn't work. I have done it all in a years time with no help. They are more painful than ever. I am on my last leg and they tell me all thats left is to take accutane (which i am not comfortable with). I have been doing alot of research and when i was 20 i moved out of my parents house, got a stressful job, and ate poorly.. also started smoking. These are the only things i can think of that have changed. I have them only on my cheeks and chin not on my forehead or nose or neck or anywhere else. I also have had sprouts of dark thin hair appear on my chin and belly. Why? No one has tested my horomones or even said anythign about how that could be a cause? Anyone have any thoughts or have horomonal acne that can explain it a little bit or at least point me in the right direction? i really am not comfortable taking accutane and would very much like to explore any other option i can.

I have cystic acne also, and in the past few years it has been so much better...but occassionally gets worse with my anxiety. A friend of mine also suffers from anxiety and used to have cystic acne (milder than mine) And she uses Witch Hazel. It's alllll natural, and very inexpensive! I started using it about 3 weeks ago and the results are amazing. My cysts haven't risen to the surface in about 2 weeks, except for an occasional few when I get have anxiety bouts.

As I said I haven't had extremely painful cysts in a few years now...but before Witch Hazel I couldn't wash my face without bleeding no matter how gentle and careful I was.

It sounRAB like you should definitely see a doctor about a hormone irabalance...I don't know much about that. I only know about anxiety induced cystic acne.

Accutane is an option for you....but I would NOT reccommend it...you mentioned yourself that you are uncomfortable with it. Good luck!

hi!i had the same problem too!!!it is a lot to do with hormonal irabalances...it also happens if u have had any contraceptive pills like i pill or sumthin....my dermo prescribed!!aziwok 500 thrice a week and isotretinoin(accutane 20 mg)all 7 days along with adapalene application in the night....works the best..(in 2 weeks... .. got all my cystic acne to d base...now slowly even the redness is disappearing....its 4 weeks now.

any drug intake will hav side effects...!!!!but at d same time accutane is suppose to b the best treatment for cystic acne.

m gona have this till its all bak to normal...(as told by my doc..may be 3 months)and then with just applications!

well i was put on a new birth control thats supposed to have a higher dosage of horomones.. and guess what?! it soo works. Yeah i had a major breakout when i first started but its day 7 and they are going down and shrinking and the discoloration is clearing up NO MORE PURPLE BLOTCHES! i think i have found out what was causing this..but have to go back and do a hormone test to see if that was what it was..But correct me if i am wrong, wouldn't you do a test before administering medication to make sure that cause was identified? Geez! Just a thought and still anyone who has horomonal acne i would love to know what you have been through and see if it was cured by uping the level of birth control pill. also thank you to those who posted, your posts helped. I never knew anxiety could cause acne? it shows you how ill informed i have been about this. Also ***** Hazel? is that witch hazel? i heard that stuff was supposed to be very good along with a face wash containing Salinin or something to that affect instead of benezole peroxide. thanks again and good luck to all cystic acne victims.

This is the matter of age generally every person get cystic acne at that age. do not worry and apply anti acne cream.

Hi everyone, I am 20, I was on ortho tri cyclin lo for about 1 1/2 yrs and I had really bad health problems...my hair started falling out bad...I went to the doctor and they said they couldn't help me (?!?!) It wasn't until like my third naturopath I met that said I had to get off the birth control immediately. I took A LOT of different supplements and about 2 yrs later (started when I was 17- the hair falling out) and that was all better and I was feeling great. But then when I was about 19 I started getting REALLY bad, itchy, painful acne. It started on my cheeks, stayed their for probably 6 mo. then moved to my chin really bad...some time later it cleared there ok and then to the sides of my face...and then finally my forehead. I haven't seen my naturopath in about a year because I couldn't afford it anymore. But she got it to where it is...which is not as much inflammation, no itching, and less pain. It's calmed down a lot but I pretty much just haven't done much to help or harm my skin. I feel like whatever I do it doesn't matter, my skin is just going to be clear one day and broken out the next...

Before this I never had acne besides the teen year pimples. I know pimples and these aint no pimples! They last for months.

What I notice helps is: a good diet and a mask containing bentonite clay (powder that can be mixed with liquiRAB-water, milk, yogurt, etc. to make a mask and left on the skin until it pretty much dries)

I also have really bad anxiety and I definitely notice a response to my skin when I'm stressed for a longer period.

I'm completely against using medication, however, I just started taking meRAB for anxiety and depression a couple weeks ago. When it comes to my face, the basic stuff at the store always seems to make it inflamed and worse. The only stuff I use now are all natural organic facial products, which are expensive :(

This curse sucks!!!
