So I've been doing some googling but would like to pose a few questions to all of you.
I've been experiencing lower back, buttock, and right leg pain for over 2 months now. It gradually got more intense and at its worst, I would cry from the pain. Pain was worst upon standing and in the morning. I saw a doctor on campus (I'm a college student) who recommended I see a PT. No x-rays or MRIs were done. He thought it was a slipped disk or something. For some time, he had me stop bending forward and do exercises that stretched my back in the other direction. Finally, when I went home, I went to an orthopedic. He noticed that my hamstrings were so tight that I couldn't lift them more than 30 degrees (while a normal person should reach 90 degrees - I told him this was due to my PT telling me to not go to the gym anymore!) X-rays showed nothing but MRI results just came back a few days ago and I have a cyst on my L4, which could be the source of pain.
I can't get back to the ortho until I go home after finals this week. However, i've been trying to do some research to see what could have caused it and what treatment options are.
From what I've seen, it's due to degeneration of the spine. But I'm 20! What else could be the cause? I've had no recent injuries and no prior back issues (slight scoliosis but I don't think that affects this...).
And are shots the way to go?
