Cycling a tank with dead fish question?

We are cycling our 29 gallon tank using a 2" chunk of dead fish as the ammonia source. We are beginning to see white growth on the fish chunk, any ideas what it might be and if it is a bad thing or not a big deal.

P.S. If you have anything against cycling with dead fish pieces please don't answer!!!
 
umm...im not against it, but im not for it...that is just stupid. the white growth happens on anything dead, why would you be using a method of preparing your tank for fish if you dont know any downsides for it? ever try researching everything? even what dead fish can do?
