The trouble with recalls is that every bike *potentially* has the problem. It's better to have the work done / parts replaced than have the problem show up down the road, literally.

I had mine checked about 3 weeks and they gave me a good bill of health so I sent them to Dan Kyle to have the Superbike kit put in. So now three weeks later the broke just like in the recall and the Dealers are telling me that they swap out the whole fork, and I'm trying to work getting the internals swapped out with the valve kit installed, I think this is going to be a nightmare. As a back up Dan Kyle can order just the bottom piece for $200 buck. So I suggest try to get them to replace it before you do any suspension work. Also Dan said he would swap it out for free.

When the service manager receives the recall notice from Ducati it contains a VIN listing of all the bikes affected. If your bike's VIN is not on the list, Ducati will not pay for the replacement/service. Now, if your bike is not on the VIN list but the part breaks, it would be covered under warranty. Unless you're out of warranty and then it may still be covered by a goodwill repair- but that's handled on an individual basis.

You don't have to wait for the dealer to tell you if you're bike is affected. Go to the NHTSA website and look it up yourself. The information is available to the public. Recalls aren't a matter of choice. It's ruled by the Federal Government. If your bike is affected, the dealer HAS to do it. If you're bike isn't, your dealer can't do it unless you pay.
