Customized Notification Sounds

I can't find the thread anymore, but it was about why someone was returning their G1. The thing that caught my attention was they mentioned that you are unable to customize your sounds for different events such as Calls, Voice Mail, Text, Email.

So am I to understand the phone uses one ringtone for everything??? This sounds insanely retarded and I'm doubtful it's true. Even the Sidekick allowed for choosing different sounds and schemes for everything...I'd think the G1 would do that and then some.

So what's the deal??

Let me clarify. I don't have a G1..I've been agonizing over picking one up. I'm not trying to stir sh** up. If this is all incorrect, I'm not the person to scorn...it would be the original post. I think the thread I'm referring to was deleted. It was mostly on about the Calendar, but mentioned the sound settings.

So that's why I'm asking. I'm quite adept at figuring out everything about my phone when I actually have it.

Can someone also confirm whether it does gapless playback or not?

not sure about gapless playback, but i have seperate notifications for various things, you can also make your own with rings extended and ringdroid.

I know what you are asking. Maybe this will help. With an app called Ringdroid you can make a ringtone, alert tone. reminder tone, received tex tone and other things for the phone very easily. What bugs me is that you can only choose one received text/mms tone at a time. meaning, unlike ringtones, which you can assign different ones to different contacts, you can not assign a different received text/mms tone for more than one contact. that is annoying to me. I wanted to assign a unique received text/mms tone for my wife so i would know it is her who is texting me when the phone is in my pocket. i have not figured out a way to do this so if someone knows please share
