I live in Texas. My girlfriend and I have been together for 3 months and are considering
A) having a child
B) buying a house to bring up the child in

I make a huge majority of the income (she makes under $15000/yr, myself over $60000) and I would be paying the entire down-payment on the mortgage, plus the monthly payments. I also own both cars we have.
****
You would think...if my g/f decided to break up with me later on (or do something equivalent to telling often the child "dad is stupid don't listen to him") IE not respecting me...I would get to keep the house and cars I paid 100% for.

However I have heard several horror stories about
A) how the woman in a relationship will always get ownership of the house along with the kids regardless so she can take care of those kids.
B) how unless the woman has done criminal or near-criminal actions that involve harming the children, she will virtually always get custody of the kids.

Also note: her and I swap hours IE she works from 6-11pm while I work from 9-5pm. So we would both spend a lot of time with the kids.

Ideally, I would want both the kids and the house, but could compromise on letting her keep the kids and paying child support while I keep the house.

How can I ensure...that I do in fact get to keep all the belongings I have paid for at bare minimum?

Side note: marriage (and the pre-nup option which comes with it) is not an option for me and isn't part of the question or answer...it simply does not match my values.

Texas is a community property state. So anything that is yours BEFORE you get married STAYS yours in the event of divorce. Get your major assets before marriage.

Or you could do a prenup, which is safest for protection of your assets, though I understand your "values" prohibits consideration of such. You'll be singing a different tune come the divorce if it should happen.

You are contradicting yourself.. in one breath your all worried about this woman you supposedly love taking the house, kids and kitchen sink, yet you say marriage/prenup is out of your value system (which could give you all your stuff back if you had one)... so what do you want???? It sounds like you want the woman and the kids but if things go wrong, they can suck wind, or at least she can after she gives you a family. You know she makes the lesser income and it is obviously an issue or you wouldnt bring it up.. whatever happened to equal partnership as a couple material stuff aside????... you say everything is yours because you paid for it.... my opinion... if you want to save all your material items... dont have kids with this lowly paid woman, find yourself a wealthier woman so if things dont work out she will gladly give you all your stuff back.

Stop listening to horror stories, if your relationship is good live for today... why worry about things that may never happen? Honestly, if she knew you were worrying about this, she might turn the other direction... I would, you sound like an A$$
