Custody assistant uk?

To be a "custody assistant" in the uk, say getting the job, would you need to undergo a drugs test and physical etc?

Are they more likely to employ you if you seem a "tough" character (to deal with the people coming in arested lol) or is it a good idea to be yourself?

I'd love this job, but am also worried it may become a little monotomous with no chance of promotion etc.
I this the case?
