I was thinking of copping a Curve (actually 2 one for me and the GF) and now this "announcement " on December 6th has cause me to hold off on my plan.

If 3G is announced with a specific launch date-Im stuck with a curve that wont work on new speeds.

Anyone out there dealing with this same issue?

I'm not getting the curve until closer to xmas so it can be a gift for me and my fiance.

And with all this talk about Dec. 6, I'm glad I'm not getting it sooner like I wanted.

If you want a BB, I wouldn't wait as I see it being a long time before a BB 3G solution comes about. This was hashed out in another discussion, but the T-Mo 3G will be 1700MHz which nobody else in the US is using. It could happen, but I don't see a special version being released just for the US T-Mo freq. I see the BB 3G devices using the predominant world freq's until the bugs get worked out and then maybe it can be fine tuned for the US. It will be a small roll out for a while as well, so the 3G utillization will more than likely not be recognized, unless you are in one of the test markets. My scepticism is due in part to the lack of 8 band chips (I say 8 bands as that is about what it will take to cover all of the variations of worldwide GSM and 3G freq's). I suppose that T-Mo could release a 3G BB but then the 3G wouldn't allow for roaming onto other and larger 3G markets (due to the freq differences being utilized).

its only next week so waiting wont kill you but i dont see a GSM 3g bb coming out anytime soon especially on tmobile before at&t

I agree, at this point the 83xx versions are so good, why wait? There will always be the next best thing, so why not pickup a new 83xx of your choice now, and simply enjoy!

if you can strike an excellent deal why not. technology is never stagnant enough to have an opportune time to purchase the "it" item. i say if you feel comfortable with the price you are paying and the features can hold you over well enough and they meet your needs why not go for it. I agree that we will not see 3g BB phones anytime soon. AT&T has a 3g network up already why hasn't there been any development there. Also realize that RIM is very meticulous about their technology working properly because the know their customers are just the same so until this 3g BB is up to RIM bench marks we won't see this thing having a major release.

Very well said!

I agree that RIM will not release a 3G device until they have satisfied themselves that it will be ultra reliable and have appropriate battery life.

I use several 3G phones on the AT&T network here in California and find that I have coverage nearly everywhere in the state. Their high speed network is stellar. 3G is also a big asset to call quality and I'm eager to see it appear in a BB, however conversely I'm willing to wait for as long as it takes RIM to release one.

Cheers!

It is very true that if you want a 3G BlackBerry all you have to do is go to Sprint or Verizon. If you'd like a Curve you'll have go with at&t or T-Mobile. I love my 8130 but I do wish Verizon had a Curve. But when the get I'll be all over that! ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

Not to mention the announcement for 3G will only be that. I doubt they'll have 3G BlackBerrys anytime soon. Especially before at&t which has had 3G for a little while now. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

I'd get it now, which I did. There is no telling the exact date that T-Mo will switch over to 3G. And since there is a rumor of the new 900 line coming from blackberry, I don't think they are gonna back-track to pick up the curve's speed.

Go for it. I bought my 8300 a month ago KNOWING I was getting the 8310 for Christmas.
I just wanted it to play with. I couldn't wait.
