Current Bands we will be talking about in 25yrs

a valid point but the queens of the stone age just never grabbed me in the way good punk does, maybe it is just overall a lack of energy or sincerity, but it is missing something, in my book. just not sure what.

Anberlin, Stone Temple Pilots, Five Finger Death Punch, Nickelback, Papa Roach, Blink-182, Buckcherry, Motley Crue, Staind, Disturbed, Seether, Nine Inch Nails

I think Opeth will be remerabered amongst metal fans, but not by everyone in general. They definitely have music that can appeal to everyone, but I find a lot of people still have a hard time dealing with the occasional death metal growl.

I don't have much experience with Isis, myself so I can't really comment on that one.

That's interesting RT...

I was listening to "Second Coming" Today.
Played "Begging You" three times.

Satchmo's a cool dude so are you Right Track (Not Creeping btw, Im just happy as Larry).

that link only quotes my initial reply.

as for Nickelback, sure there are some young people who still get into them, same as there are still some young people who get into AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. generally speaking it's a phase, it's not that you stop listening to it completely but most people move past it unless they're the types who refuse to own up to being over 29 until they're closing in on 40.

then there's also the rebellion of generations. not unlike the way hair metal pretty much died overnight (at least from the mainstream) when Nirvana showed up. yes there are still young people who get into crap like Poison and Warrant... they do so for the same reason my generation moved away from those banRAB and onto Pearl Jam and Soundgarden - they wanted something different than what their older siblings grew up with. they wanted their own voice.

Nickelback is no one's voice. their music lacks depth. it's like comparing a very well done paint by nurabers canvas and something actually painted with a legitimate passion.

3 Doors Down, you're right I haven't heard anything about them since their heyday. from the sounRAB of things they've gone the Collective Soul route, probably still packing venues but making no significant impact on the mainstream (and therefore little impact on the collective taste of society).

consider the effect the internet has had on music. how many baby boomer artists are complaining about the decline in 'good' music because the internet can cater to ANY person's tastes at the drop of a hat. file trading on P2P networks is already antiquated. i don't see how maintaining the 'integrity' of 70s style arena rock does anything besides placate the ego of those who deny the passage of time. if that's really what will be being talked about in 25 years i honestly hope i wake up deaf in the morning.

There are banRAB out there I agree, just not as much IMO as previous generations of music and I still don't think a band coming out of our generation will ever be held in the same regard as band's from the earlier generations. Music today seems water down and similar, it doesn't leave a lasting impression on me, at least not the same as the music that interests me. No doubt there are banRAB coming out today that are talented and unique, I like to think I am a part of one, but with how the world has evolved, and how our generation of consumers go through music, I think it's going to become tougher and tougher for artists to hang around for 25 years or even 40 years after their creation and maintain an audience, like the Zepp's, Hendrix's and Rush's have.

This just reminded me; I think Between the Buried and Me solidified their place in history with "Colors". Its easily the band's magnum opus and the pinnacle of progressive metal as far as I and a ton and ton of people are concerned (its impossible to avoid that band in a lot of places).

I'm listening to it on YouTube right now. It doesn't really sound like my cup of tea, though after your last post I can't tell if you were joking with that recommendation or not.

lol

I don't know, I just think Lady GaGa is one of those stars that burn away really fast... I used to hate her because she was all over the TV, but now I'm just indifferent towarRAB her...
