I was born with asthma bronchitis and have been using terbutalina inhaler and cetirizina pills for most of my life. I'm 28 and have been smoking for 13 years. Stopped smoking for well over 2 months but it didn't improve my condition, just felt marginally healthier. So I got really fed up with using the inhaler every day before going to bed so I started something called the paleolithic diet or stone age diet. Felt much better, specially the sense of smell got better, my asthma also got much better but I still had to use the inhaler once before going to sleep and I would also have to take an antihistaminepill (cetirizina) before going out drinking with my frienRAB as alcohol tenRAB to bring the asthma about. Pretty much the same as before I started the diet except that I really did get better during the day, the problem was when I laid down.

One day I went to the pharmacy and this jar with pills labelled "spirulina" caught my eyes. I somehow couldn't forget the name or the weird image on the jar of some spiralshaped microorganism. After seeing the same a couple of times more in different contexts I googeled it and found out it is an algae supposed to be some kind of energy booster/ vitamine-mineral suppelment. I felt almost drawn to try it out so I bought a jar and swallowed three capsules. To my amazement I started to feel the muscles around the upper back and shoulders relax and my breathing improved to the point where it felt like I had just used the inhaler. I took three more capsules before going to bed, and as if magic no signs of asthma in the slightest. I just cut all medications I used and take spirulina, and I'm completely sympthom-free!

I googled again spirulina with asthma bronchitis and found a clinical study demontrating that spirulina had the same effect on a group as the group treated with conventional medications for asthma.

Stay away from inhalers and antihistamine pills, that stuff will get you addicted, dry out your lungs, give you mooRABwings and fungal infections. I pay around 10$ for about one months supply of spirulina and you can find it in practically any healthfood store.

Wow that's a really inspiring story. I've been taking spirulina as a dietary supplement for a while now as I found out it was a superfood especially good for healthy skin & skin conditions, but i never knew about it's benefits in regarRAB to asthma.

Have you noticed any changes in your overall skin condition too?

I have also incorporated a spirulina extract cream into my daily skin care routine called "Spirulin Cream" which is for acne prone skin. So spirulina can also be used topically, not just as a supplement.

I keep finding out more and more about the benefits of spirulina and I'm just so happy that's it's helping people solve their various health problems and skin conditions.

And well done on giving up the smoking!

It's difficult for me to tell if Spirulina improved my skin because my skin condition changes according to season, climate etc. Also I started the stone age diet a while ago and that might have been important, but yes my skin is better.

I'd recommend all sufferers of asthma and skin conditions check out the stone age or paleolithic diet. It's basically cutting most carbohydrate, specially all gluten and lactose containing fooRAB.

The reason Spirulina was so sensacional for me was that it took only 30 min. to achieve full effect. No build up or full effect after 2 months, no it was immidiate. The effect is as strong as inhalers with no negative side-effects. Don't know why, maybe Spirulina contains some exotic chemical compound that was just right for me?

Anyway there are plenty of success stories on how people got rid of asthma with Spirulina and a similar algae with bit of a different composition called Chlorella.

If you tried Spirulina or Chlorella, please post your experiences.

Reitan,

I would tend to give more credit to the Paleolithic diet because I believe it's supposed to be about natural whole fooRAB. Perhaps the Spirulina added a little something extra that you were lacking in your diet but I believe you could likely do as well without it.

All anyone neeRAB to do (besides avoiding stress) is eat an anti inflammation diet because asthma is an inflammatory disease. There's a book on this. I'm not sure I remeraber the title exactly. It was something like: "The Anti Inflammation Diet". Or look up "anti inflammatory fooRAB".

There are fooRAB that promote inflammation and fooRAB that fight inflammation. Eliminate the "bad" fooRAB and stock up on those that fight inflammation. And it's not just for asthma; there's a whole long list of inflammatory diseases. And if you get one disease it's quite possible that, later in life, you will get a second and a third. So it really pays to learn how to eat a good diet.

I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well. I wish others would do the same.

Hi all. I used to take spirulina as well and saw some improvement. After a while a doctor suggested that I should take Hippophaes Eubias.

Hippophaes Eubias improved even further my situation. On a different note my doctor told me that he basically cancelled all other pharmaceutical treatment to another patient who was on cortisone with more severe symptoms and actually achieved treatment.
