Ritual washing is part of the daily routine. Western immerion in water - a bath - is considered a dirty habit and a shower is preferable. This allows the water to flow over the body without touching it again. It is normal to wash the perianal area with water, using the left hand, following defecation. The urethra and anus are perceived to be unclean.
