Culture warriors: Would you be upset if Obama proposed bilingual currency?

Imagine that: your dollar bill in both English and Spanish. ¡Jorge Huachintón, el primer presidente de los Estados Unidos!
Well, the issue wouldn't be so much comprehension of the writing on the bill; bilingual currency would be a symbolic measure to recognize the contribution Hispanic culture has had on the great melting pot we know as America. It symbolizes how we are well on our way to becoming a functionally bilingual nation.

I am definitely a strong pluralist, but see no reason why any politician would ever change the design of the dollar. Arabic numerals are universal. No one reads the rest of the note.

Just curious: who has to be able to read English to understand the difference between a $10 bill and a $20 bill? When you open your wallet, do you stop and read the English words on the bills before you figure out which ones to use?

A speaker of any language can figure out US currency in a few seconds. No one is going to propose bilingual currency; it would be a waste of time.

Yes. For cryin out loud this is THE U.S.A. And in this country we speak english. Immigrants must be required by law to learn our language. I'm a supervisor and I have a lot of people from Latin american countries working for me. It drives me crazy when they don't even attempt to learn. If I had a job in Mexico and lived there for 3 years you bet I would be able to speak spanish fluently. Now I'm a democrat and I voted for Obama but when it comes to this issue you can call me Archie Bunker.

Not at all. I'm half Czech, so I'd expect my family's native tongue to be on there as well. Screw spanish
