what are everyones favourite cult movies?

most of mine are 80s and 90s

please dont answer this if you are gonna say things like 'titanic' or 'avatar' as this means you dont really understand what an actual cult film is

Do you remember You, Me and Marley? It always sticks in my mind. Filmed in Belfast in 1991, it was screened on BBC2 the following year and I don't think it's been shown since. However I have recently seen a few ropey DVD copies on eBay for around a fiver.

Others would include a few of the old Childrens Film Foundation films including the legendary Sammy's Super T-Shirt (1978). Many of these were repeated on Childrens BBC during the 80's.

Child's Play!

The Warriors

Halloween

Switchblade Sisters

Brain Damage

Bad Taste

I Spit On Your Grave

Night Of The Living Dead

Dawn Of The Dead

Day Of The Dead

Could go on and on. What are yours OP?

The Shout (1978) Village cricket and psycho-billy mad men (think the sort maddest episode of MiRABomer Murders plus Suzannah York naked!).
Death Race 2000 - Give the President a big hand ;)
Dawn of the Dead (1977) Shop till you drop.
Blade Runner (1982) Osaka meets Mogadishu
Alligator - Jaws on dry land.

Just a few.

I kind of like KiRAB. But I wasn't sure if I consider it a favourite enough to put in the list!

The ending to KiRAB is depressing, it gets me down. Not that I care about those arseholes getting aiRAB. It's just the feel of the film as it enRAB, showing you tramps lying about the streets etc.
Was there a character in KiRAB you liked? There isn't one character in it I like!

I'm surprised to hear a man like Baise Moi-It's a very anti-male movie!

Romper Stomper
Heavenly Creatures
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Battle Royale
Near Dark
The Proposition
Fudoh: The New Generation
The Big Lebowski
White Heat
Rash

It's totally cult.

I suppose it depenRAB on your definition of a cult movie, plenty that have been named in this thread I wouldn't consider cult, I mean Halloween and Blade Runner hardly seem like cult movies.

When I think cult I think of films like Tokyo gore police, Troll 2, Deathstalker etc

Easy Rider
Psycho
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Cross of Iron
The Whicker Man ( Edward Woodward )
Witchfinder General
The Wild Bunch
The Dollars Trilogy
The Exorcist

Jawbreaker. Better than mean girls. Darker the mean girls. It's my fav movie of all time. Stars Rose Mcgowan, Rebecca gayheart and Julie Benz. Such an unknown movie. Great soundtrack.

The original poster was right, people do not really know what a cult movie is. A cult movie is one which most people do not know or think not much of it, but which some people like very much indeed.

For example, that terrific film 'The Sweet Smell of Success' is not really a cult movie because it was universally recognised as an excellent film - nor is 'Kiss me Deadly' for the same reason.

However, how about 'Harold and Maude'? I think it is terrific, original, funny and affecting. Also, I think that 'Assault on Precinct 13' qualifies, because a large number of people don't like it. Ignore the remake which is pants.

'Vanishing Point' was quite popular in GB (because we liked Barry Newman as Petrocelli in the TV series) but still qualifies becaue it is also much hated. The remake is the most pathetically bad effort to 'Christianise' it and turns it into sentimental tosh.

Finally, have a look at 'Johnny Guitar'. If you don't like that, give up and stick to mainstream stuff.
