Cube Fritzz Bicycle with non standard rear wheel quick release?

I have just purchased a Cube Fritzz Frame and am very impressed with it. Problem is when I started mounting the components, I realized that the quick release system used for the rear wheel is different to the standard. They use a system called X12 Through wheel. Can someone please explain this system to me
