Cube and Cube 2 - Hypercube

Anyone else love these movies?

Recently the only way to see hypercube, the sequal to cube, was to erm....."find" it on the net...as imdb has reported it'll never be released in the UK on screen or anything.

However i practically fell over today in blockbusters where i saw hypercube on sale on dvd! It was in one of those bargain bins though...still strange how you cant seem to find it ANYWHERE else and this is the first i heard of it being here..it has a bbfc rating and everything. Weird eh.

Anyway has anyone else seen the first or second of these films? Its very philosphical and asks all sorts of mind bending questions!

I have seen cube and i thought it was a weird movie and the ending *which i wont give away* was weird but i only saw it because someone said there was a moment like the laser corridor in resident evil movie which there was but tamer :( but anyhows whats hypercube like is it based so much on the first one its so damn boring?
 
you found it boring? I thought it was pretty good...

The second one has very naff acting...but the storyline is alright...i suppose. Its basically the cube gone 4 dimensional, with parallel universes and stuff!
 
I hadn't realised they'd made a sequel, and I wish they hadn't. The first film was excellent, one of those movies that keeps you thinking for weeks afterwarRAB. It was such a good concept that a sequel would just spoil it methinks.

the second film answers some of the philosphical questions from the first....such as who made it, why...etc.

Although the ending from the second one confuses me so much! If you get a chance to ahem "find" it on the net or buy it, watch the ending and tell me what you think cos i really dont get it! You get to see basically what happens when you exit the cube...

Well the ennding made perfect sense to me !

A character was sent in to retrive an artifact, when she does she too is eliminated with the others so there is no trace.

"Plausable deniability"

Simple

And of course as its in the forth dimension it makes it easy to write Cube 3..
 
Well First of all I watched the Cube and to be honest I thought that it was werid but was Ok and had a good storyline Watched cube 2 the other week and thought yet again was werid But was a Good film but it had a werid ending
 
Cube is really good, although I have to say the first time I watched it I didn't enjoy it that much, but the second time I loved it.

Not seen Hybercube.

I've got both movies on DVD - bought Hypercube as soon as it was released on R1 on the Internet. It was made to go straight to DVD and wasn't released at movie theatres ANYWHERE. I LOVE both movies. I like the idea of another dimension/parallel universes, etc, so movies like Cube, Hellraiser, Matrix etc particularly appeal to me. I really enjoyed what was going on in Hypercube, each time a door opened, and it definitely wasn't a good idea to go through (don't want to spoil it for the others who haven't seen it) - some of those scenes were great. I would love to make a film like that because you can really let your imagination run away with you.
 
I've seen them both, the first one was excellent, very original and was a great moviemaking success in my view.
The second could have been better - They should have elaborated on the mechanics of the hypercube a bit more, and the ending and how it came about should have been far clearer.
I mean I'm all for vague, once-off movies that tax the mind and don't give any definite answers but if they wanted to leave the concept like that to make us think more about the psychological side of cube ( life or death situations bringing out people's true side blah blah blah ) they should have left it alone after the first movie. But making the second implies they're going somewhere with the story and they went nowhere except for telling us who made the cubes.

Where will they go from here ? ???

No! It's got to be called Cube 3: Rubik's Revenge.

It's obvious.

Out of interest, why was Cube 2 not available in the UK? I got it over the internet (haven't brought myself to watch it yet).

Hypercube may be released over here at some point. Things to remember are:

a) when a movie is made for DVD, it is generally only sold in countries where previous movies in that series or genre have sold well.

b) Region1 nearly always gets US/Canadian made movies released first, and we have to wait a while, for some mad reason, sometimes up to a year after that first release!

c) this was a budget movie made in Canada, and they may not be able to afford a world-wide release.

Wife and I watched the first one and were amazed at the twists and turns in it but the other reason we watch it was the girl in it (cant remember her name) with the broken glasses was in RAB9 as a trill. the biggest surprise for us was the Autistic man and the way the actor portrayed him very well done I thought:) I might watch the sequel if we find it .

After reading this forum yesterday I got straight onto my local blockbusters and they had 1 copy, but only to rent.

I thought the 2nd was just as good as the first-even though you roughly knew what was going to happen i still found myself in suspense.

Agree, the ending was just setting up the 3rd film (if there is to be one) and didn't really answer our questions, but thats why we are all talking about it!!
