CTIA and S60

Well, seeing how CTIA is coming up the 27th-29th, I was curious what you guys think will be shown in terms of some new S60 devices. I'm sure many of us have been looking forward to this convention because this event is meant for the US/NA: it's one of the few times where we get some devices meant for us. Anyone have any predictions or hopes?

Oh, and the show is like 15 minutes from my house in Orlando at the convention center and I can't go...

I also live in Orlando about 15 minutes away & just drove by the convention center yesterday & saw the sign. Immediately I thought I HAD to go, but then I looked it up on the internet & found out it was $485 to get in and my hopes were dashed... well, hopefull my N95 will come in this week & make me forget all about the show....

Maybe I was looking in the wrong place, but that is what the price looked like to me for Non-Member Attendees... if anyone finds out how to get a cheaper (free ) rate, I'd love to hear it...

CTIA Daily Rate

Prices:
Member Onsite - $385.00
Non-Member Onsite - $485.00

Here's the website: http://www.ctiawireless.com/registration/registration.cfm

$150 for non-members.... still too rich for my blood no matter how close I live. All my extra cash is already spent on my N95... PB&J sandwiches for lunch for awhile....

Given that it's a Trade Show, they're trying to keep consumers out, so that those showing their wares can focus on potential clients and whatnot.

That being said, I posted on my predictions a while back, but in retrospect (and having spoken with a few Nokia people who'll be manning the booths) I don't think there's going to be anything new, even S60.

Exactly. It's a trade show, not a consumer show. The point is not to "get the word out," it's to make business deals and get press. CTIA is a pretty intensely B-to-B show. Application vendors trying to get their stuff picked up by handset manufacturers and carriers ... handset manufacturers trying to get their stuff picked up by carriers ... carriers, handset manufacturers and accessories vendors trying to get their stuff picked up by by indirect sales channels and enterprise buyers ... everybody trying to get their stuff noticed by press and financial analysts. Sure, you can pay the $150 to go yourself if you really want, but most people are supposed to experience this sort of show mediated through me and the hundreds of other press who attend to bring the truth to y'all.

A consumer show has a very different character. We run one here in NYC, called Digital Life. In that case the point IS to get the word out on the street about products. CTIA just isn't that kind of show. Neither, for that matter, is CES.

By the way, I can't think of ANYTHING new S60 I saw at the show.
