Cruise Control Quit Working

Thanks very much for this. I had my cruise quit today. Got home and first thing I checked was to see if the brake light was on. It was. Jumped online and saw this post. Went out and checked my '09 Ultra and it is definitely the rear brake switch.
I pulled one of the wires off so now the switch is no longer on, cruise works again,
and I made an appointment with the dealer to swap out the switch under warranty.
I would do it myself but have ABS and need their machine to bleed the system after removing the switch.

With the cruise rocker switch On
Kill switch in run position
While holding cruise set/resume button to the set position
Turn on ignition
Cruise light on should be RED
applying any of the inputs (brake clutch throttle roll off) should turn it green
If it's green to begin with you have a stuck switch somewhere and need to eliminate them one at a time to find the culprit

I too am having problems and heaven help me, I have even considered going back to the dealer. My 06 RKC cruise was working intermittently then quit altogether. The red on light works, but can not set it and change to green. If I disconnect the throttle off switch, the cruise works. Brake lights both work ok. I tried the above sequence, but no green light at all..how can I pin down the problem. Thanks

Sounds like you have already figured it out! If it works with the throttle roll off disconnected then I would say that is your problem.
 
Just got back in from a test ride. Sweat advice, disconnected the roll of switch, works like a charm. I was going to let the dealer look at this the next time I got a service. I can only imagine how much cash this saved me. Thanks
 
Some times it is the speed sensor in the tranny that goes bad. Had this happen on my RG at 102,000. new sensor and it wors just fine.

This does seem to be a common issue and I am in that boat. I was actually thinking of starting a thread and ran into this one. I went out over the weekend and the cruise on my '05 UC worked once then never would again. Basically, those so affected need to verify correct brake signal operation and check out this 'roll on switch' operation. Thanks for this tip as in my ignorance, I didn't even know about it. I will give mine a good check over tonight and see.

FWIW, what is this orange stand-by mentioned here? All I have ever seen on mine is the red when the switch is first engaged then the green when set. The red always bugged me as I didn't like seeing a red light as I was travelling. I wished thet HD would have at least made that blue so that I wouldn't catch the signal every now & then and wonder what was happening!
 
Some riders leave their fingers on the front brake lever. If you hit a bump, it's possible to apply the front brake just enough to shut the cruise control down.

If the brake light switch is adjusted to sensitive, it will do the same thing.
 
I haven't received any feedback on the one comment about the orange stand-by light Lost1 mentioned. However, after checking my ride in my garage last night I may have discovered an issue. After applying the front brake, I see the stop light will activate, but when I release the lever hte light will stay on for say five seconds or so. Then if I just lightly touch the lever with the tip of my finger (no brakes activated) the light will flash. At this point, I am guessing that the front brake switch is the reason for no cruise control.
 
The orange light indicates the CC is "On" and it turns green when CC is engaged. On your bike "on" may be indicated by a red light instead of orange like my '07.
