Cruise Control Quit Working

Last year my cruise, signals, and brake lights all quit working. I was far from home so the closest dealer replaced the accessory fuse which got me home. My home dealer finally figured out it was a short in the right control housing and replaced it. Your problem is almost assuredly in one of your control housings.

Yes, I have checked and replaced all fuses. Havent taken my meter to them yet. But will. Also, my running lights, brake lights, turn signals and headlight all still work. I am king of relunctant to tear into the switch housing. Is it a tedious process? Thanks.

Taking the switch housings apart isn't too difficult, especially if you have a service manual. I would put a meter across the fuse first as it's the easiest thing to do and will rule out an electrical short. That would leave a possible broken wire somewhere, a bad switch, or something internally wrong with the cruise control.

The electrical service manual has a good troubleshooting guide in it for isolating problems, with a whole chapter devoted to the cruise control. If you don't have one, you can go on ebay and get the service and electrical manuals together as a download for about $10.

My cruise doesn't work all the time either and some times it will engage and accelerate unless I shut it off I'm thinking a switch problem but a Harley repairman said that never goes bad. I need help got a big trip coming.

Didn't read all the responses, so forgive me if I am repeating something already stated...

Might want to check the rear brake light switch. My nephew had a problem with his cruise, and it was the brake light switch which had gone out that caused it. Just a thought...

Think my switch might be the problem. Went to check if any codes were set and could not get it to show codes I tried 3 times. Played with the switch a little wiggling it around and tried again and the codes came up 111 which is no codes, memory clear. So I guess I'll change the switch and see what happens.

I was on a trip on a '05 Road King and my cruise stopped working. I pulled over and disconnected & reconnected the spade connectors by the neck and it worked from then on.

When I got home I put some dialectic grease on them.

I thought there was a way to check the last few times it was disengaged, what switch disengaged it. If it is working sometimes, maybe that would help you out. I'd have to try and look up where I read that you could check that.

Mine quit working last saturday in the middle of a ride, took it to dealer on sunday, they said the brake light switch had stuck on, they replaced switch under warranty.
