Criticism of Seth MacFarlane

Uhh...since when is Cleveland considered a moron? Unless he's being portrayed that way on The Cleveland Show, which I am unaware of.

Some of those are good points though, but even MacFarlane jokes about his shows being the same. I doubt he's going to get butthurt over these tired criticisms.
 
Just a suggestion, but I think it would serve this thread better if everyone were to leave their religious beliefs out of this. It's just a crock-pot of flamebait waiting to happen.
 
Blurg.....how can you guys be swallowing this? Yes, they're both about families and they both have weird characters but American Dad is not the same show as Family Guy. Comparing Hayley to Meg is stretching things really far; Hayley doesn't exist for abuse, the only similarity is that they're both daughters. And Francine is hardly the voice of reason; she's really dense.

"The same animation style" is a worthless gripe. Groening's shows have the same style as well. It's because they're from the same guy.

The Cleveland Show, however, is a true spinoff and will probably be just about the same as FG. Seth has admitted to it in interviews.
 
So did a lot of people. But it's not hereditary.

I've seen several interview comments that make me believe Seth is an atheist and none that make me believe he's a Christian.
 
Sigh. I dunno. As with anything, I'll have to see The Cleveland Show before I judge it, like anything else, but the identical art/animation style is REALLY not helping. You almost wonder if Seth is capable of anything OTHER than this style, or if he just doesn't care and doesn't think the audience will either. It's wearing a little thin.

I don't quite consider Seth a hack (if his shows have gotten me to laugh hard on numerous occasions, that's gotta count for something), but if The Cleveland Show ends up having virtually identical writing/joke-telling formats as Family Guy except with different characters, it will be much easier to make that claim, as the very definition of a "hack" (according to dictionary.com) is someone who produces dull, unimaginative, or trite work. It will show that while this format may be popular with some audiences and that's why he keeps going that route, he's unwilling or unable to try something new.
 
You know what would be great? If all the promotional stuff for this show turned out to be a big swerve, and the first episode took Cleveland completely out of the normal FG universe and had him fighting aliens or something. Not likely, but it would definitely give me more respect for Seth MacFarlane.
 
Extremely, Bruce Timm did 3 shows at one time and he said he didn't know how he did it. Seth on the other hand is in full production of 3 for perhaps a much longer tenure. However he's making 100 million so there has to be a trade off. Seth will most likely find a way to cope with the stress though, even if all the shows follow a similar formula, its a lot of work. I agree somewhat with the article, my dislike for MacFarlane has mellowed from a year ago so I won't go so far as to call him a hack just yet. However I'm not thrilled with the Cleveland show, especially after seeing some of those characters( Bears? ). Kind of wish that Quagmire had gotten it.
 
Okay. After having the free time (at last) to read this, I'd have to say that the writer is on the ball with Seth McFarlane's work, with can be said about any other animated show.
 
Yeah. Joe Ruby and Ken Spears started off as writers/co-producers for H-B before they pulled a Don Bluth and decided to strike out on their own. Fangface was R/S's first solo project. People still mistake their studios' shows for Hanna-Barbera, so I guess the fruit didn't fall too far from the tree. ;)
 
And if they do wait and then decide to criticize, will you criticize them for that the same way you tell people they shouldn't be complaining so much about Family Guy?

EDIT: For the record, not being snippy. I'm just not sure, based on your previous posts, if you'd be satisfied with any outcome of the Cleveland Show's premiere other than "We all like it."
