Good timing djchrissy I've just this minute finished watching it.
I disagree, I thought, for what it was, it was fantastic. Hopefully it'll become even better as the rest of the story unfolRAB.

I just didn't get American Physco (sp?) and thought it had the worse ending ever.

I confess that I am old enough to have seen 2001 when it was first released, and at that time it was pretty awe-inspiring. I saw it in one of the West End cinemas with decent sound etc. and I still remember it as one of my memorable movie experiences, along with Frankenheimer's Grand Prix (when is that going to be released on DVD?)

anyone who says 'wasn't as good as the book' deserves to be f ing shot. don't goto the f ing pictures and watch it if all you can say is that. I've never read any book that's as good as a film, so shove that up your arse.

Agree on Citizen Kane - I know it revolutionised the form and all that, but it's quite dull, isn't it?
Minority Report - quite cool as a kind of Mission: Impossible in space thing, but it made absolutely no sense. As soon as they decided to depart from Dick's short story, they screwed up the logic. There are a million holes, and the whole thing is just a cop-out when you start to think about it. I'd tell you precisely why, but the script simply isn't worth the time. Read the original short story in its entirety and you'll see how beautiful the original logic was, and how all the holes are explained:

I found Ghandi and most of the Merchant Ivory films boring. But the most boring and ludicrous critically acclaimed film I've seen has to be Il Gattapardo. This is directed by Visconti, who did Death In Venice. If you thought that was dull... It's based on a classic novel, this, which I enjoyed a lot. I even like art-house pretentious films. But oh my goodness this is dull. Burt Lancaster plays the main part, and is dubbed into Italian throughout, as is Alain Delon. This film is 205 minutes long - it felt like double that. The final scene, a ball, lasts an hour. I took my wife to see this early in our relationship - it's a miracle she stayed with me after that waste of an afternoon.

I may as well throw in my tuppence worth
I hated 2001: A Space Odyssey with a passion, maybe one of the earliest films were you're only watching for the special effects.
2 movies by Ridley Scott, Blade Runner and Alien. Hate Blade Runner and only own Alien because it came with the box set.
I don't totally despise Chasing Amy but compared to the other Kevin Smith movies I feel it's very weak, probably because of the lack of Jay And Silent Bob.

Panic Room - fell asleep 1st time I watched it. Tried again, fell asleep again, woke up for the end. Useless.
Minority Report. CRAP. I am a Philip K Dick fan, and read most of his stuff in my younger days back in the 70s & 80s, so I totally understand the plot, but Spielberg and Cruise killed it in my opinion. It did not work on the big screen.
And as for these modern musicals like Chicago and Moulin Rouge...can't even bring myself to sit in front of them.
Oh yeah, and LOTR is a load of tripe as well. I watched it twice but it didn't grow on me.
For the record, I am a sci-fi and horror maniac, but that doesn't mean I have to love everything in those genres.

As I have all the main war films (Saving Private Ryan, Behind Enemy Lines, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, When We Were Soldiers, Sniper, Hamburger Hill, Three Kings, etc etc) I thought I'd better invest in it.
BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP I EVER WATCHED. Brando was crap. Sheen was crap. Liked Fishburne but he got killed. And what WAS it all about? Might as well have been Lord of The Rings in the Jungle.
Sold it on eBay, needless to say. Couldn't bear to leave it on my shelf.

The reason why a lot of people here are saying that they do not like Citizen Kane,
is because they do not know the story behind the movie, and so do not understand the subtleties of the plot.
Might I suggest that people first watch HBO's film RKO 281 first, and then they might appreciate Citizen Kane.

Memento was an excellent film, really held my interest throughout. I did wonder what was going on in the first 15mins or so but after that I thought it a very clever film.
