"Critically acclaimed" films that you hated

I posted a reply to this thread a while back. I've got another one for you.

THE WICKER MAN

This film was recently released on DVD and the critics went wild over it. It apparently is the best horror film ever to come from Britain. Apparently.

Even though it is some 30 years old, I bought it based on the critics' comments. After all, it starred Christopher Lee & Edward Woodward - 2 respected actors.

TOTAL LOAD OF TOSH!!!

This is the best we could do, while the US knocked out such classics as The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby at around the same time? God help us!

Has anyone else sat through this rubbish? I would love to know if they agree with me.

Cheers everyone, I feel better now. :D

More on topic ... I would have to agree with the person who mentioned Gangs of New York. I actually fell asleep in the theater (I woke back up, unfortunately). It was around 3 in the afternoon!

middle class americans blaming immigrants and ethnic minorities for low employment rates for middle aged white men, it has a great philosophy about male aggression and the 2 personalities displays the main characters alter egos.

brilliant film if u ask me...with or without the violence

Oh yeah, definitely have to agree on:

English Patient (biggest yawn ever?)
2001: A Space Odyssey (ok, not awful, but disappointing)
The Rock (yuck, Sean ain't made a good flick since Bond)
The Matrix (what a rip-off of old Twilight Zone stories)
Harry Potter (crap for kiddies)
It's A Wonderful Life (big fuss about nothing)
Manhattan/Radio Days/etc (pretty much anything from Woody Allen, except The Sleeper)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (well, mediocre, I suppose, but wasn't worth buying the DVD without seeing it first)

Add:

Notting Hill (no plot)
Casablanca (boring b/w yarn)
Truly, Madly, Deeply (turned that rubbish off)

Oh, there must be so many, but I'm trying to forget them! And trying to avoid seeing them in the first place! nd

Being John Malkovich

It was a very clever film, quite original, but i have to say i didn't enjoy it one bit.

The Lord Of the rings

I just don't think that any film will do justice to the book.

Pearl Harbor

Terrible.

Titanic

This film was all the rage at the time, but now it has sunk firmly to the bottom of the ocean.

Fight Club

Again very clever in parts but not enjoyable and i thought it was really over the top.
