Ok, so i just picked up one of the cricket USB internet dongles
UTStarcom UM100c is the model
i cant install this on vista 64 with the CD, is there anyway around this?
manual driver install + windows connection? any walkthough would be great

CWIS is not behind a proxy. to my knowledge the only thing that is blocked is standard VOIP ports edit: actually i don't know if they're blocked, but i know the terms prohibit voip, and i've heard people tell me that they can't use various voip programs.

I know it sounRAB goofy, but whenever a usb device does not work under vista x64 (because well those vendors suck and are lazy 64bit is the future) I use vmware or virtualbox, and it works then. not exactly a great solution, but you can use xp under vmware, and then use internet sharing through that to make it work. Not ideal, but it would work.

There is no such thing as 32-bit compatibility mode in 64-bit Vista...
Their processors handle information in a different way. Many 32 bit programs do work in 64 bit computers, but since the install for the USB modem uses erabedded drivers, it will not work.

In other worRAB, you need a driver that will work specifically with your 64-bit processor, but since cricKet has not made any 64-bit drivers yet (I think) it will not work.. :wow:

Yeah, so in the process of trying to decide on installing XP as a dual boot with vista for the time being...I had my raid rom up and went to the bathroom.
long story short, my daughter was banging on my keyboard on my return, bye bye array.
so i just went ahead and redid my machine with xp pro 32 again.

After banging my head against the wall for the better part of a day I was able to get the cricket um100c working on my Windows 7 machine. Start the install process as normal, you will get to the section that asks you to plug in the um100c. Windows will not automatically install these drivers for you. Leave the setup program running and open up Device Manager and find UTStarcom UM100C under unknown devices. Manually search for the driver in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cricket\QuickLink Mobile\System\driver". After it installs there will be two more unknown devices in Device Manager. Repeat the manual driver lookup in the same location to install them. After that go back to the setup program, you should now be able to click on Next to finish it.

In a few months calcomp the makers of the all mighty EZ will be making a cricket modem with 64 bit access.

It is possible to use your x32 Modem on a X64 vista i have done it and it works just fine, its a bish to setup but once you do that you can use it no problem. However you will have to use the cricket program to actavatie it, somehow someway maybe install it on a XP computer Act it then come back and put it on your vista

please explain to me this. the reason that the card will not work on vista 64 (OR XP 64) is that microsofts 64 bit operating systems will not load unsigned drivers... utstarcom/cricket has not/will not submit submit to microsoft for driver signing.
so you'll understand why i have a hard time believing that you are able to trick it into installing, even if you manage to install the drivers, they will not load because they are not signed...
