It's generally a big misconception as to how expensive ringtones really are, heh. We don't get em for free, we have to pay the music labels on everything we sell (or giveaway). Also we're not Microsoft, hahah. Although that would rock if we were... we're just small ringtone company.

If anyone, blame the labels and the RIAA for their extreme licensing costs. If a song costs .99 on iTunes why imply that a 30 second version of it should cost so much more. =]

...and lastly, in my own defense, I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me, hehe.

I'm sorry that this is a little off topic...

Is it legal to purchase a song on iTunes for the .99 and then turn it into a 30 second ringtone instead of buying a premade ringtone (maybe the best part of the song, maybe not). And by legal, I mean would the RIAA complain because by anybody else's standarRAB it would certainly be legal.

Interesting question, Octo....

I would argue that if I paid .99 for a song off of iTunes, that using part of it to make a ringtone to enjoy would be "fair use" of what I bought.

Within the terms of Fair Use, yes you could buy a song from any service and then cut/convert it to a ringtone.

With iTunes 6.0 though, Apple has a DRM restriction however that thus far has yet to be broken/stripped. So essentially I wouldn't rely on Apple for that, but technically yes, you "can" make your own tones.

We even have a built-in program on our site that does all that for you if you have a legal music file, such as a MP3, etc. The best part, is we don't charge you to use it. =]
