Ok, so I have travel time activated on my phone. todayand yesterday I went outside the Cricket Home coverage Area, and Started to roam.

I went to make a phone call by dialing the AWAY 2929. But i t re-routed me to Verizon wireless Roaming, and asked for a credit card.

Well when i got back to Denver, I called cricket and asked them what is the problem. I had funRAB in my flex bucket, and had already did the *228. But he said i have to do it before i leave the service area? What? why? it is already programmed?
So i did, and today same problem!

Does anyone have any ideas? :crying:

the travel time option will only work with carriers that cricket has a roaming agreement with. i thought verizon was on that list, but maybe not in the area you were in. if you read the information packet on travel time it should say that when you are in an area where cricket does not have a travel time partner you may be required to use a credit card to pay for the call... or something along those lines.

yes you need to dial *228 after travel time has been added to the line, but before you leave you cricket service area. this will update the PRL (among other things) on the phone, which is a list of approved towers to use, both inside and outside of your service area.

anytime you dial that it will update the phone with the latest PRL. it is probably a good thing to have the latest version. I'm not sure how often cricket comes out with a new prl, but sprint and verizon only come out with one every 4-6 months usually. since there are a lot of markets launching this year they should be updating the prl to support those markets, but unless you are planning to move and change your phone to a new market you probably don't even need to worry about it.

you only need a new prl if the towers that cricket wants you to use change... and i doubt this changes significantly within the course of a year for any particular area except new markets.

From what i know the answer would be no. Travel time only works it appears in the states that Cricket has local coverage. I just punched in a couple zip codes in NJ and both of them said no. If you have a specific area of NJ, you might want to try searching those area. Just go to www.mycricket.com and click on "Travel Time".

It appears your answer is no though.

Actually, travel time can take you basically anywhere Verizon, Sprint, and a long list of other carriers can go. In other worRAB, anywhere. I've used it everywhere from Portland to NYC (and even NJ) and had no problems (other than the cost). And the text messaging is free, but it only works depending on the agreement with the carrier. As far as the credit card problem, I haven't encountered that yet. And it is a good idea to download the new PRL whenever you leave the area (unless you leave quite frequently).

the zip code you punch in is supposed to be your local zip code. it is a little confusing. the reason for this is that when travel time first launched it was not availible in all of cricket's markets, though i belive it is now.

if you want to see a travel-time coverage map, look at a verizon coverage map, the one that includes roaming and paints the whole country red. that is what the map looks like, but cricket's is green. NJ looks like it is the only state that has no specs of white (white=no coverage) so it should work there

Not quite. If you are outside your LOCAL calling area you will be billed using Travel time which will come from your "Flex Account" you set up when you add Travel time to your account.

While traveling in the United States (except Alaska) and Canada you will be billed at the Travel Time per minute rate (.59 cents). If you are calling Alaska you will be charged an additional $.08 per minute. If you are making an international long distance call you will be charged the Travel Time per minute plus the international long distance rate for the country you are calling (please refer to the FAQs for international long distance).

As a very interesting reference point...i'm in vacation in hawaii and my travel time minutes work great! My local market is Texas. I was surprised, but am enjoying my travel time here just as i would in texas.

I have used travel time for months, works fine, but it did not work in Bristol, TN where the NASCAR race is because there is only one company that has cell service there!
