Cricket to Launch Android Phone

Im sure the hardware would be sufficient. Lets hope there is enough interest in this phone for some android rom developers to want to build something for this phone.

Also, keep in mind that when these phones are "rooted", an exploit of some sort is utilized. If none exist/are found, then no custom roms can be installed. An example is the CLIQ XT where nobody has found a way to root it.

I'd like to hope an official update to froyo would come for this phone at some point. It's much better than eclair.

Im wondering what the differences between the Sanyo Zio and the Huawei Ascend are? I see the review of the Huawei Ascend on You tube is pretty good, running the new Android update, but it has a smaller headphone jack so id need an adapter. They did a side by side with the new Evo and the Huawei Ascend was pretty fast. I heard that the Zio has issues with the touch screen but no one really says what they are, and I heard battery life is worse on the Zio than the Huawei Ascend. Can anyone give a good side by side compaire of these so I can make a good choice?

The list I saw, only had 2 smartphones. The Kyocera Android phone and the Blackberry 8530. I think 3 total touchscreen phones are on the list right now.
There was rumors of like a $55 -$60 Blackberry plan to maybe roll out, everything included + tax.

Because of the type of processor used, I would say it would be more in line with the G1 or the MyTouch 3G but ~100mhz faster with a bigger screen. I'd say that's a pretty nice step up for cricket compared to the current lineup.

Complaining about this phone compared to an EVO or iPhone 4 is lame. Lets see, an iPhone 4 costs a couple hundred bucks up front but also comes with a nice 2 year agreement plus a phone bill no less than $84 and that is with 2GB data, limited minutes and 200 sms.

Cricket will give you a phone functionality equivalent to a MyTouch3G for ~$300(which in all honesty is not a horrible phone) with unlimited everything and for probably ~$20 less per month. And with no contract.

I'm actually pretty excited for this phone so that I can come back to cricket and to be able to buy a new fully supported cricket hanRABet that is pretty decent (i'm tired of second hand phones, this is why I went to boost and bought a boost branded 8330. I tend to take better care of my phones than most).

This facebook group is hopping with people:

Not quite the same kinRAB of people as on hofo but its literally raw feedback from everyday people who have ordered the zio.

It seems like this phone is selling like gangbusters. I hope it drums up enough interest for someone to try and root it although if it gets an official update to 2.1...id be cool with that.

Also, I wonder how many of the people who complain about this phone being on 1.6 ACTUALLY have android phones? I have a G1 and while I can run 1.6, 2.1 and 2.2...I always go back to 1.6 because of how well it runs. The thing is the performance is the only real difference besides a few cosmetic things. I think the only app that I noticed you can't get on 1.6 is the official twitter app.

Don't worry too much about the Kyocera name being associated with this phone. A few years ago Kyocera bought Sanyo and they are the department that are making this phone. Sanyo made award winning phones at the time.

I'd like to note though, that my first phone ever was Kyocera, and it went through absolute hell before it finally crapped out on me. :x And yeah, I was feeling down about this phone for a bit, but once I saw the newer video from DigInfo (or whatever it was) and it looked more responsive, I was in love.

Thank you so much!

Yes, a review would be great! Make sure you put links to the pictures and video quality of the phone if you can.

Thanks again for posting. :)

From what I've heard, the current data speeRAB are good enough for Android phones, as long as it is the HTML Data plan. I read somewhere about Cricket having 6-8 rabps, but I'm not sure where I read that, so it might not even be true. Cricket's supposed to be launching a MiFi though, and I can't see them letting people share Internet if it's only going to be 1 rabps or so, but you never know.. I'm just guessing here..

boost is not $50 dollars a month for Unlimited everything for smartphones. I believe it is $60 dollars for the blackberry plan. But I tell you what, better not be sleeping on Virgin mobile, they are creeping up on all pre-paid service carriers.

I'm not going to go into detail, but the Zio has a nicer screen than the Ascend, the Ascend is more responsive, the Ascend only has 2.5 mm jack as you mentioned, but it does come with headphones that will work. The Zio comes with 1 GB Micro SD and the Ascend comes with 2 GB Micro SD. The Zio's processor is better, but the Ascend seems to perform better so far. There is an issue with the Zio's touchscreen. I had some trouble with it on Android 2.1, too. I like the Ascend better than the Zio so far. I've used the Zio in person, but not the Ascend. I did hear that the Ascend's battery life is better. According to CNET, the call quality on the Ascend is bad.

I know this is kind of messy but I typed it up in a hurry. I hope I helped you out somewhat.

You'll be pleased to find that your G1 does have a hardware keyboard!

The G1 is not laggy with a good ROM on it. Try CyanogenMod, and make sure you don't have too many apps sucking up memory. Install System Panel to check on that.
