Cricket to Launch Android Phone

That page is a joke. They censor anything you say that talks about prices or what carriers the phone is coming to. You're best sticking with Hofo and SU for up to date info.

That's crazy. I don't think it's even worth it. If it breaks, you can just get a new phone! They'll have an Android just a little more than the deductible soon enough.

Anyway, does anyone have any updates on their Zio? We know Android 2.1 is coming, but somebody on the Zclusive Facebook page posted and said 2.2 is coming. Can anyone confirm that?

I believe it is a big push forward for Cricket, to at least have some decent hanRABets coming out in Q3 & Q4.
The lineup I have seen was decent.
The manufacturer selection was a disappointment. Kyocera is not one the best cell phone manufacturers.

If you compare the current list of phones that arrived in 2009 to the projected phones to arrive in 2010. The improvement is large.
Still will not be up to par with phone selections in the smart phone area compared to the big players like Verizon & AT&T.

The QA4 was a big let down.

Cons- Projected time for Cricket hanRABets have always been pushed back to 3-4 months from mentioned release date.
Mandatory data fee may apply, the same $15 mandatory data fee the QA4 Evoke has. -_-.
Cricket is spending a shell load of money trying to upgrade their image of that local "ghetto" wireless carrier.

how can you people knock it before you try it. no ones asking you to dive in head first...

yes cricket isn't as "modern" with features, but good grief, their prices are so low, and now nation wide. give them a break, unless you like paying 84 dollars a month for 450 minutes...

A Cricket corperate AGM and Marketing director for South Texas. Did you want names...Friend? Althought theres not much point in speculation till the Fed-Ex truck arives! I've played with the ZIO it will launch with the 1.6 doughnut firmware...

I can knock it for running Android 1.6 (if this is indeed true) when Android 2.1 is available and wouldn't be any more expensive for Kyocero/Sanyo to use instead. It's just a bad decision with no rational explanation.

It is priced at $299.

But remeraber, this phone was built to be lower priced more affordable Android.
On one of the major networks, it would probably be a $100 + 2 year contract priced phone.

Qik Video or QikTalk, I haven't tried neither.

To add to my above post, trying to use Tikl over Crickets network is impossible. At least its impossible for me. It connects but thats it.

i'll see if i can post some pics. there is verified problem with the web function but at least there is a fix. good news is that the web is really fast. it seems as fast if not faster than my old iphone 3g on at&t.

inputs are slow compared to the new versions of android but overall i think it's going to be a great seller for us.

Hello CAFFCO, I am also in the South Texas area, how was the Zio working? Is the internet any good? Also, did they say when they were going to have the Zio for sale? Hopefully its better than the damn Evoke which sucks.......Thanks

So, my plan is to wait until noveraber/deceraber to decide what phone i'd like to get. I am still pretty amped about the Zio but one question I have for you guys is why buy the Zio when you can get something like the original Droid which would seemingly be better and cheaper?

I just have a bad feeling that somehow, data will be cut off from non Zio phones at some point. It would be a huge waste of time and money to by a non cricket phone if that were to happen.

Thank you very much for tha report. The sluggishness was what had me worried. So nice to see that it was due to the preproduction software.(like kyocera stated)
Also nice to see that it is still running straight Android (no skins) Woot!!

As for the keyboard. The standard android keyboard isn't very good. Lucky "there is an app for that". LOL

Now just a matter of waiting to find when it will be released.

Wirelessly posted (sam-r550 UP.Browser/6.2.3.8 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

Thank you for the report! I am hoping the price is reasonable along with the data plan. This is very exciting!

I know someone else had previously mentioned this in another thread-
it is too bad that Cricket did not have these new phone introductions to coincide with their expanded coverage announcement.
I am sure it was hard to predict when all the coverage agreements were going to be completed (sprint, mississippi carrier - Cellular South i think, etc) and in place.

That's pretty cool. Wal-Mart sells a bluetooth thing for computers so I'm guessing that would work. That's interesting. I wonder why they don't allow you to use Wifi on the Android one.

Has anyone been able to download a game with this phone, like a racing game, and play it? I was wondering if the phone has enough power to do that. I know on the iPod Touch you move the phone to the left or to the right to turn the car.. Does Android work the same way?
