Cricket to Launch Android Phone

So, only Cricket customers would want a phone only released by Cricket... Maybe I'm not understanding the issue there...

What Cricket phone now neeRAB or could use modding, hacking, etc...?

This is a big step forward for Cricket. For a company that started so small, in the past 2 years they've been making leaps (lol) and bounRAB forward.

Why knock a phone just because it's being released by a low cost pre-paid provider?
And everday day I have about 15 people call me and ask "Do ya'll got uh Android er uh Black-bury?"
MOST customers won't care that it's made by Kyo, they just want a phone that runs Android. And if you look at some of the other Android forums, the majority of the people there don't like the idea of hacking, modding, or Rooting their phones.
I think that everyone here on HOFO will hate it because of an unfair prejudice against Kyocera and their advanced cell knowledge, but the average Cricket user, they'll be just fine.

Have been considering Cricket especially with the P+ increase announcement. if i can get into a new Android for under $200. will just wait until they arrive. I have had bad luck with used phones and have been wanting something new. Glad I waited and that I checked out the Cricket forum.

Ok, this guy at a cricket store said, for example, now that there are not going to be giving months free, the phones are going to cost exactly the same for new and current customers, so if this is the case we should expect that maybe the phone will cost $169 - 219 wich is the suggested retail price by kyocera and not the $299 price point on the Cricket leaked pix. Right now for example the Samsung Stunt is $49.99 and is expected to drop to $29.99 after all the new changes take effect.

O and the Zio does have the Sanyo logo on Cricket's website, buuuut if you go to kyocera.com they have it on there and not on sanyo.com. Im thinking they will just slap the sanyo logo on there to make it LOOK better.

Meaning, there will be no real support for this phone. Maybe some cute wall papers and ringtones but thats it.

None, my point exactly. Glad we can agree.

I know, I have been with Cricket for 9 years.

I'm not, just don't want people praising this phone and saying it will be highly supported and modded.

Again, Android is a great OS. To be honest I haven't seen an Android site where rooting and hacking/modding isn't the goal.

Yes this phone will be great for the average Cricket user. For others, you can purchase a Hero for the same price.

Unless Cricket has drastically changed in the past few months, my opinion stanRAB.

I was with them for a long time (until I knew better), and can tell you stories. . .

I just got a note in the mail from cricket about their phone insurance.

They're changing the deductible for the Zio to $125, WTF BS is that? Half the price of the phone? For $5 a month... $60 a year and I still have to pay half of the cost of the phone. In 6mo the phone will be $200, and I'll have paid $30, so the insurance will cover ... $15. And Cricket would probably give their $15 charge for switching phones on top of that. What a **** warranty, I feel so ripped.

It would be much better getting a 3rd party warranty at this point.

There is no way in hell this phone will be $400. The leaked picture on the net shows crickets slide listing it as $299.
As for online rebate? I still think it will have one. Every phone online always does. Even my Hint when I bought it brand new(when first released) was like $40 off online only.

Otherwise people wouldn't bother to order online, they would just go to the local store.

Now, having said that. Since I am sure they feel this phone will be really popular. The Free overnight shipping from the web might be all you get.

Either way, $299 with free shipping for a midrange android phone with no contract and crickets cheep rates is a great deal to me. I'm just hoping that the bugs in the beta software,(according to kyocera), that caused the laggy performance at the release show have been fixed.

Yeah, Kyocera did say $169 - $219. I'm guessing it'll be closer to the $219. The MSRP that I recently heard is $249, which is $50 less than the first leaked MSRP of $299. So, I'm guessing there will only be rebates and no further discount because of the free month being taken away. I guess we can expect the phone to cost around $200. That's what I've been telling frienRAB and family. I told them there might be a rebate or something, so it might initially cost more, but the end cost will be around $200 or so. Hopefully that's right.

It's been said that the phone is made by Sanyo several times, but I don't like how they put the Kyocera logo on some of the images. They should move it to the Sanyo site and not Kyocera. Maybe that would help some of us to relax a little bit. :p

I agree with you to an extent. But having seen 2 identical phones on Cricket (one with HTML plan, one without). I can tell you that it makes a huge diffrence. HTML data plan phone was a good 2 or 3 times faster than the other one, and speed wise it looked like true 3G to me. (compaired to when I was with AT&T).

As for the plan. I am interested to see what Cricket offers. I looked at boost, but sprints coverage honestly sucks in my area. (unless I live on, and never leave a major highway or the center of town.)

You're assuming that the price for the ZIO will be $75 a month? In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that previous speculation in this thread on the plan was correct. There were 3 options suggested and the highest anyone else had suggested was $60 for everything...

That is absolutely amazing compared to my current phone, the Samsung JetSet. I know it's not shocking towarRAB people that have phones like the Evo, but for a cheap phone like the Zio it's great.

Thanks so much for posting! I really appreciate it. I look forward to seeing the pictures later. :)

Sorry but this is wrong.

Tikl doesn't need 4g, average 3g works just fine; no lag. Tested on T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. The sound is almost instant.
