Cricket to Launch Android Phone

You have heard correctly. It's the Kyocera M6000 or Kyocera ZIO. Technical specs are hard to come by, but it will have EVDO a 3MP camera, capacitive touch screen, no qwerty keyboard and Android 1.6. Android 2.1 will be available later in the year(I imagine, though, you'll be able to download the 2.1 binary from google and bootload the device and install it. I'm planning that for the first day we get them.). This device along with the BB Curve should be available this summer. Internal testing of the Android device begins end of April beginning of May.

I'm very excited and I may actually cancel my iPhone and switch to Cricket completely.

ive hear a bunch of stuff on the android phone as far as release date today alone, i heard it will be released august now ive heard fall/septeraber no one really knows exactly when, i also just got some info saying couple of days. Who knows but i want it NOW

It might be too early to ask, but I'll try anyway..

Is it possible to use radio applications, such as the Sirius/XM Radio app, and Pandora, iHeart Radio, etc, and connect it via. Bluetooth to the car to stream? I have Ford SYNC and can connect my current phone (Samsung JetSet) to the car for music that is on my Micro SD card, but I was wondering if I could do the same with the Kyocera Zio, but have it streaming from the cell towers (over Internet)..

Does anyone know if this is possible?

EDIT: There is a headphone port on the Zio, right? Does that mean I could use an AUX cable and connect it to the car that way? Do you think it would work?

Knocking a particular carrier without stating the particular market you're in is like comparing apples to oranges. Cricket coverage/service might be okay for my area and bad in yours (and the same for other carriers). Plus, we're not even considering how the phone is being used (heavy/light talk, heavy/light web, heavy/light text, etc).

P+ might be better than Cricket or vice-versa...clarify with some more info before bashing. I use Cricket in the Nashville area because my monthly bill is half of what it would be on Verizon...plus everything is unlimited and the service works relatively well for me.

If money were no object, I'm certain most of us would be on Verizon due to their massive coverage. Isn't that why we all dink around with flashing our phones to Metro/P+/Cricket/Boost??? I certainly am not on Cricket because I think they are 'better' than Verizon. They are MUCH cheaper and the service is acceptable!

soapbox mode: off

Good job on the review! It was nice because it was quick and to the point. I've seen some reviews and some people say "Uh, no, that's the wrong button." "Ummm, I don't know what that does, I'll mess with that later." and it gets annoying. :p

Thanks for posting. It was very interesting. It definitely looks like a nice phone. The keyboard in lanRABcape mode doesn't look too bad. I've never used a touchscreen keyboard before so I guess that is something to get used to.

Just in case anyone was waiting on me to get an answer, I hit a wall (figuratively, not literally) and unable to find anything out about the price. It seems everyone's lips are sealed.

The battery will get you through the day as long as you don't have a ton of things running at the same time (i.e., notifications, wifi, bluetooth, instant messengers, etc. Make sure that you have a car charger/extra battery, just in case you are a heavy user.

I know there are other keyboarRAB apps, haven't had a chance to explore them - yet. With regarRAB to the keyboard popping up, as I said it is an annoyance.

I'll take some pictures and a video tomorrow when I have some free time after work.

Nice. I think these are going to sell better than the blackberry. I can't wait to hear some good rewiews from some hofo users!!

I was in the local Cricket store yesterday, Ive been bugging them for a month they told me middle of June last month. Now they are telling me end of June. The sales person said they are in the warehouses just the store managers are getting training on the phones for "costumer support". LOL Then the individual stores will start to receive the. As far as the Price I was told to expect $150-$200. Additionally I asked about tethering, the store manager told me no. But there are always ways around things.

You can do the same with the Kyocera Zio(Prounoucned ZEYE-OH) that you can do with the Jetset. The Zio will have a MicroSD card that supports up to 32GB. Load it up with music and it will be able to transmit to your car via bluetoth. Your Ford SYNC should work just fine.

It has the full Android market place. You can buy with a credit card or flex bucket funRAB. Cricket won't restrict what you can do with it, but you are still subject to fair use, so keep it under 5GB to avoid a throttle.

It does have a headphone jack and it's 3.5mm so the same cable that connects your iPod to your car will connect this phone.

Do you use an anti-virus application? If so, which one? I've seen a couple so far. I don't think there are many viruses but I've read about one recently and would like to prevent against others that might come out.
