Cricket roaming minutes?

I got one for ya...

My wife and I are going to Anaheim in 3 weeks to take our 3 year old to Disneyland, I know that Cricket is not in the OC area. My question is this... I know that if we buy roaming minutes that it will enable our phones to roam and work in the area, but we both dont really plan on talking all that much. Will the minutes that we buy expire or will they remain active as long as we have a current Cricket account? Reason I ask is back here in Portland, we travel to the OR coast almost every weekend and Cricket only covers the Portland area, not the coast. If we dont use all our roaming minutes, will we still have them to use whenever we are out of our Cricket market? I.E. we wont have to worry about no coverage outside our area because we will always have those roaming minutes...

Just got off the phone with Cricket and am a little disapointied. I called and asked about how roaming worked and packages worked and this is what I was told...

Cricket sells minutes like this, 30 min for $5, 70 min for $10, and 120 min for $15. Now whatever you choose it becomes a reaccuring charge until you call in and tell them to turn it off. Once you do that you loose any minutes you didnt use and roaming is turned off. Which means that I cant just have roaming turned on (for free), and then buy minutes that remain active until I talk them up. Blah. That kind of sucks.

BornintheeastLA... What if you just saved the PRL to a CD Rom? That way you can load it whenever you have a PC. Or does the *228 do more than that?

they are probably talking about the roaming network selection(home only vs scan/automatic), but *228 does not actually change this setting.

I will be using an a900 with prl 1040 loaded. The Cricket rep told me that *228 turns on and off roaming. Not sure if it does anything else. I just cant have roaming deactivated and turned off if I happen to be outside my calling area becuase according to them I cant re eanable it since im not in my home area. That leaves me sol and with no phone service

So it seems like I finally got a clear and definate answer and I am happy about it. I called customer care one more time and was told that Roaming had to be turned on before LEAVING your home area. Once you left and were outside your home area, you were free to turn your phone on and off and that your phone would continue to roam. I was happy with this answer but I wanted to double check so I called a local Cricket store and checked too. They also confirmed that as long as it was activated prior to leaving, you were good to go about keeping your phone on or off without worries of no service once your turned it back on.

GOOD NEWS. We can lay this one down to rest.

Yes you do... you call cricket and enable roaming on your account, then *228 to update to the 7733 PRL.

I still can't figure out how turning your phone off would deactivate roaming...

Me too. She told me that *228 enables roaming and it does something in the phone to activate. once turned off it resets and turns it off but since you are out of your area *228 cant access Cricket to turn it back on.

My wife is all upset about this

It wasnt a concrete answer, I did say I was going to all today and make sure. I was however upset at the fact that it might hve been correct info. You would think that someone who works for the company that provides us with the service would know what he/she is talking about. Guess not. Even the Cricket rep (store rep) said that customer service via phone is a joke and are not trained properly.

I worked for cricket corp. for almost three years. It's true the call centers aren't well trained, however, some of the corp. reps are not very knowledgable as well. Like I've been stateing for the last few days here DON'T TRUST WHAT THE REPS SAY AS GOSPEL. it's best for all of us to test these things for ourselves before we; a: get worked up and irritated over something and b: give concrete ansewers. I don't mean to sound like I'm flaming you cuz I'm not. peace
