hi all,

I need some help in finding a cricket phone. I am trying to find a reasonable way to get cricket service for my son in phoenix Arizona. I am in Dallas Texas so it hard.

buying from the cricket website I would be automatically put on monthly billing cycle. I don't want this on my cc but in my sons names.

I cant seem to buy a just a phone either. I am at my wits end and was thinking about just purchasing a used or refurbished cricket ready phone.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I think a good condition phone is the most reasonable way for me to go, any connections for a used good phone?

I would have to send it too my son in phoenix so he could go to a cricket store and get his own monthly service.

thanks for all your help.

thats the hard part. i buy phones at 150-250 each and flash them to cricket myself. you can make verizon phones work on cricket, so if you wan just a cricket phone, look for something like cricket 6265i nokia or cricket v3 razr (not a verizon phone flashed to cricket).

Either:

A Cricket V3c (No Plain V3's!)
6265i (Nokia Slider)
6275i (Very nice, 2MP Camera)
W315 (Basic, PEBL Like formfactor,)

Those are going to be what he'll be happy with. For the slim phone of course the V3c will be what you want, For a "Media Centric" phone either one of the Nokia's will be good or for a more text message / Internet phone the W315 will work as well.

i found a place not far in dallas on ebay. it says to check the esn nuraber to make sure its clear before purchasing it.

Please, how do you do this?

thank you

That sounRAB like its either... A) Not a Cricket phone or B) the person selling doesn't know about Cricket. The ESN (Electronic Serial Nuraber) isn't something that Cricket monitors. make sure that it is ALREADY flashed for cricket. Alot of people say "Not flashed to cricket now but can be". You don't want that. You want one that is flashed and ready for Cricket.

(oops. Posted the at the same time)

from looking at it, it appears it would work fine. cricket doesn't track ESN's, verizon sprint and others do. cricket is basically prepay so you can't really "owe" a balance.

I think thats just a "template". Thats not a current Cricket model so do know that the rep's might not know how to get the MDN or MIN into the phone when he starts his service. But he should be able to find it online if they don't.

(Edit: Also looking at the persons shipping policy's make sure that they accept local pickups. As some REQUIRE that the item be shipped.)

cricket definately does blacklist esn's. it might only be esn's that insurance claims are filed against, but there is a blacklist, a dealer would get a cryptic message like to send the customer to a cricket store. or account history found. sometimes when these phones are taken to a corporate store, they will 'recover' the phone, and not return it to the person that brought the phone in.

the esn will also be locked if it is on an open account. most accounts close 30 days after non-payment, and thus those esn's are freed.

They do blacklists phone's just like sprint and verzion do.
They still have 1,000's of users on there non prepaid accounts like me.
I dont pay untill after i use the service, i pay at the end of the month vs the beginig of the month.

Not only that they black list lost or stolen phones as well. The only difference is that cricket will remove the blacklisted esn's after 3 months of the phone not being used so that who ever has it can then use it.

Cricket is a big fan of recycled phones :D

i have a VI660 that was reported stolen (domestic quarrel) but the ESN was clean in less than 3 weeks(once removed from the account).. I don't have any idea on that one, but hey I'll take it.

they non-paid esns are not actually blacklisted. just the account is still active but hot-lined (and only neeRAB a payment to be restored), and obviously you cannot have the same esn on two accounts. once the account is cancelled, status disconnect vs hotlined, (my IAM can do this, or after the normal 30 day suspension) the esn is freed for usage. the error message is something like "ESN is active on another account" and is the same for esn's on post-paid accounts and PIA accounts. Maybe it's because CCV and expansion markets handle hotllines a little differently... The error message for a blacklisted ESN is more cryptic as I said before... "Account History found" or just plain "refer the customer to a cricket store"
