Cricket - Not honoring Free 1st Month & Free Activation - oops!

I have a coupon that expired today that says its from Cricket Wireless, Inc.. Basically, says Free activation and Free first month of service when you start a new plan.

No where on the coupon does it specify it is ONLY good at one specific store, or that it is only good when you purchase a new phone thru them.

I was given the run around to 3 different stores, and eventually to the main headquarters store in Rochester, NY.

The main store said they can activate the ESN # for my XV6700 phone, but that they would not honor the coupon and I'd have to pay the activation and first month. They directed me to go to the store that sent out the coupon. By the time I got there, they were closed (6pm on Saturday) so now the coupon is expired.

My main concern is, how can Cricket not honor a coupon that has their name on it? I feel as though just because I was not purchasing a phone from them, they were just blowing me off. I called their customer service, and they were completely useless.

Usually a company is the most accomodating when they are trying to get your business. Makes me wonder how helpful they will be once I am a customer. I've never been told that a company would not honor a coupon with their companies name on it.

How does everyone else feel about Cricket. Both current customers as well as future "possible" customers?

Thanks for listening :)

This one unfortantly is your fault. If you read closely (and read the website) you'll see that it say

So you didn't buy the phone new from them which mean's it doesn't apply to you. It would be better if you were really desperate to get your first month free to simply buy the cheapest phone, and then put the MDN and MIN in your VX and get them to change the ESN.

As a cricket customer since the first of the year they've never screwed me. The part on "How can i company now accept a coupon with there name on it" is due to legal and revenue reasons. If they put out a coupon for a free phone and never put an expiration date on it then they would go out of business. You have to remeraber. You can go here and pay a little more than at Verizon. Or go to Verizon and get screwed.

Maybe i'm just pissed today. (I've been battling with my ISP for the entire day.) or am i right?

[Hey! Yaaaay! my 100th post lol]

Congrats on the 100th post :) haha

Thats what I found weird......... their site now says "with the purchase of a new phone." But, I swear it didnt say that yesterday. The coupon says nothing about that either...........

Oh well.......I guess I was hoping for the free activation & free 1st month so I could really test out Cricket. I'd rather get to test out for a month free, rather than dumpin $75 to find out their coverage sucks or it drops my calls.

I'll probably just end up droppin' the $75 now.......... but hey, it was worth a shot.........

If all you need is to get the 35.00 plan. As web / text messages will work as long as voice works. So you could put 35.00 down + the 10.00/15.00 activation fee down and than switch to the 50.00/month plan after your 35.00 is up. Or use the 18.00/ cricket by week plan to test. But i would guess it should work fine, As they seem to from what i hear have good coverage in most of New York.

1- Wasn't "bashing" cricket
2- I can read the fine print! The coupon that I'm referring to says NOTHING about having to purchase a phone to get the free activation & 1st month free.
3- I agree that NOW it does say that on the web, but I'm 99% sure it didn't a few days ago.
4- It just concerned me when I called Cricket Customer Service they wanted nothing to do with my questions regarding the coupon. It might have been a language barrier, but she pretty much just said there isn't anything she could do about it.
5- Glad to hear you like Cricket....... hopefully their service in Rochester, NY will be just as good.

I guess I stand corrected......... 1% wrong :) hhaa

OK, web says with new phone purchase.......

No biggie, I'm gonna go sign up anyways...........

lol now that were all done being mean gett a enV or a 6700 and getter running onm cricket so you can show it off to all your frienRAB!

I've got the 6700 allready :) Just itching to get it up and running. Thanks to all the great posts on this forum, I don't think it will be a problem at all.

I called a local store yesterday, when asking about the free activaction / month, and the little kid behind the counter told me "its not like you can take a verizon or cingular cell phone and have it work with Cricket".

I told him you could and I know lots of people that have with Verizon, he just told me "well you have fun doing that". haha

Hopefully I'll get down to Cricket today and get my phone plan all squared away.
