Cricket Issues: Austin, TX

Greetings everyone. I wanted to start this post to collect information regarding cricket issues here in Austin, TX. A lot of problems have been popping up over the past 3 months. Glitchy voice mail, dropped calls, roaming issues, and super delayed text messages. These issues are not isolated to just my service.. but that of frienRAB, family, and coworkers as well. If you live in or around Austin and have similar problems, post em!

i live in san antonio and ive noticed the signal is not as strong as it seemed to be before and texts also seem delayed a lot. me and my girl have cricket and we both have noticed it. i was wondering if it was just here, i guess not. whats up with that

I think the issue is spectrum. Cricket only holRAB 10 MHz PCS C-block throughout central TX, and I know tons of people who have signed up with and/or switched to Cricket. All that usage has got to put a strain on the network. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot that can be done about it near term, as there is no additional spectrum available at the moment. That is unless Cingular wants to sell 10 MHz (they're holding around 70 MHz throughout central TX). Also, Cricket won 10 MHz AWS E-block for the Central REAG in FCC auction 66 last year. However, since there's no equipment (neither base station nor mobile station) available that supports that band class, it'll probably be at least another year before that spectrum will be put to use and relieve some of the congestion.

That does make sense. Of course we would never hear a cricket rep tell us that. What the hell are they thinking? When you start to reach capacity you put a halt on your advertisement until you can upgrade equipment.. what do you know? They are still advertising all over Austin.. on the radio, on TV.. gah!

I was talking to a fellow cricket customer tonight while I was out. He was having some serious voice mail issues along with dropped calls. While at a local cricket office, the salesman mentions they are having some issues with the cheaper phones.. if you want better service, buy a newer more expensive phone. Can you believe that response?

Assuming you are right, it's easy to put this puzzle together. Does the PCS protocol have a priority system like QOS for computer networks? Now it's a matter of sorting out phones via serial nurabers, in order of manufacturer and model to determine Quality of Service? hah! Razr, Krzr anyone? Some of the more expensive hanRABets. It will be interesting to see if owners of these phones post here, along with their experiences.

Cheers!

I live in el paso, far from austin, and i have the same problems. Lots of frienRAB and family have the same problem also. Another weird problem is that some of us are unable to receive texts from people on cingular or sprint. They get ours but we don't get theirs. Cricket says they've never heard of this problem. Anyone else experienced this outside of here?

I know someone who had Cricket here in Houston and he said the service was begining to get so bad that he switched to another carrier.

I live in San Antonio also and the service has def. gone downhil since i signed on in Noveraber. My girlfriend and i both have the 6265i and lately its been getting worse. Either the texts sometimes take hours to come thru or even the next day. And dont even talk about voicemail. The thing just pops up sometimes saying that i have a message. When i check it, its sometimes days old. i've got in the habit of just checking the dang thing always. Maybe it'll change in he future when the crowth starts to level off.
