Cricket in South Texas

I just walked in the store today, and they said that it's all AWS down here. It pisses me off because all they have are crappy phones. I really wanted that Nokia 6275i. Is there a phone I can buy, flash and have it work with their "tri-band" network?

yes, but the "will the AWS markets support flashed hanRABets?" seems to be the question...

i think the answer is "no" because flshed hanRABets will not be triband...

OR- are dualband phones and spectrums also supported in those markets...

i thought that cricket was launching AWS so that they didn't have to buy the other banRAB at higher prices.

no in the AWS Markets dual band phones will only work off of roaming. i just put a not cricket esn into an account based out of oklahoma city... it did not reject the esn.

Actually yeah after doing that, I can only get one of those three which are featured on the website. What's the point of AWS anyway? the phones all suck at the moment.. They should have a better starting line-up

The three phones that "suck" as you so quaintly put it are the only aws phones in existence at the moment. There will be more in the coming months.

Never ceases to amaze me the people that whine about hanRABets. It's just a phone after all.

i think he means the limited (no) availability of nice devices...

of course, as you said, they will release more aws phones in the near future...

something just had to be thrown together real quick to launch aws...

as more and more aws markets begin to open up and existing markets wupport their already active networks with additional bandwidth via aws, then we should see more and better aws devices being released...

again you make a valid point...

that is true...and ans stated above, they will not start manuacturing better devices until there becomes more demand for aws phones...

why produce a really kewl aws device that takes months of research and designing only to sell 1000 total?...

i get the logic and i'm very thankful that i do not live in an aws market right now...

i'm sure that, with vegas launching as an aws market, they will be releaseing some new stuff very soon...

as someone stated in a previous post somewhere, verizon may or may not use their aws spectrum for 1x (talk/text)...they may use it for their new LTE data services or something else...

i am, like you, in high hopes that they will start launching aws devices in the near future...

verizon has commited their newly acquired 700 MHz spectrum to LTE. I cannot find anything from verizon about their plans for AWS... All I could find was speculation, I believe that they have to tell the FCC what their plans are before the licenses are actually transfered to them, but I just can't find it.

That said, if Verizon does plan to use it for CDMA, they are not nearly as pressured to launch it as a company like Cricket or Metro is. Cricket and Metro need new spectrum to launch in more places, Verizon merely complimented their existing spectrum. I believe that the new spectrum holders are responsible for helping to clear the spectrum so Verizon may be taking its time to reduce costs.

US Cellular is likely to launch CDMA AWS before Verizon does, and thus we may see some flashable devices out of them long before Verizon even has a network close to running on AWS banRAB.
