Cricket in San Diego...Launching shortly!!!

You are going to run into a lot of difficulty trying to activate a non Cricket phone, near impossible. Its similar to Metro PCS and when i was working for Metro, I had try to activate a series of other CDMA phones but was unsuccessful since the system rejected the ESN nuraber. Unless you know someone from the inside, I suggest just using the same phone you have. In terms of reception, it depenRAB on where you live, but if you hapen to live near on by El Cajon Blvd ( I know its a long street, but there are several facility and I doubt you will have any problems there.)
 
Cricket will activate ANY esn (as long as it's not black listed or already active)!! However they will make no guarantees on service on non Cricket ESN's. The system doesn't reject the non-cricket ESN, it will just pop up a message that the ESN is not Cricket.
 
Okay, I will try to go in and activate my LG Chocolate from Verizon... Its unlocked so according to you it should work. I guess there is only one way to find out. For $30 I will give it a try.

Now, when you say they will make no gurantees on service, are you saying that it might not get any reception? If so, while the system may not reject the ESN but essentially it doesnt work therefore the network rejects the phone thus no service?
 
when i say they won't guarantee service on a non-cricket branded phone, i mean that if something doesn't work, or your phone won't activate with OTA, you're on your own to figure it out.

when I said 100% i meant that all towers might not be up at launch, but they will be very quick to bring everything online.
aparantly the "tripod antennas on roof" are due to special requirements by the city to decrease visual impact of towers.
I think subscribers in San Diego will be pleasantly surprised by the coverage and quality of service that Cricket offers.

WOW... Really, can you tell me where you found this information from? I can assure you (back with 100% assurance) that any tripod antennas on top of any building are there illegally in the City of San Diego.

Come to think of it, how will tripod antennas on roof decrease visual impact?
 
You are right about one thing, they do launch with most of their facility active, (...tripod antennas on roof) but nevertheless they launch. :rolleyes: In terms of 100% I'm note quite sure what you are referring to, and if its reception then I question that, especially since I know of an X amount of facilities being process through the County and only say a small percentage (total of 2) has been approved.
 
If your phone wont activate over OTA... something (network) is rejecting the phone or vice versa but the end result is the same, no? When I say end result, I'm referring to the fact that you won't have any service since your phone won't activate...?
 
no the phone might not activate ota for a lot of reasons, including cricket not having the subsidy lock code for non cricket phones


as to the antennas... i gave you the link in my post already. you're the one that called them tripod antennas. i have no idea what they actually look like, but all cellular base antennas should be panels, i believe that is the most efficient antenna design and could be hidden quite easily. just cricket, and probably most of the cellular carriers there probably don't have big towers coming out of the ground extending high into the sky.

And the article you linked us to, refers to some cell sites, using NextG technology but not all. You are correct, cellular, also known as main cell sites uses panel antennas.

Panels antennas can be hidden but it depenRAB on a lot of factors which I will not bored you with.

Cricket has done a great JOB with their facilities and I would say that they have a great management. When you say other carriers and big tower (Monopoles) you would be surprise with how many there are. Granted no at much as the east coast but there are still lots.

Anyways, I am not here to hate on Cricket, because I do believe they have a place here in San Diego. I also believe in their business practice I am skeptical about the reception and NEXTG. I hope they last, and I hope they continue to expand here in SD.
