Cricket in Las Vegas

sooner than you think... unless you think tomorrow.

actually the most limiting factors are not cricket themselves. cricket afaik is ready to go and has been preparing for quite some time now.

they are mostly waiting on existing spectrum holders to clear out

yeah. they are probably only going to have 1 phone available at launch. they will be migrating the lineup to include more phones to work there. I'd imagine within 2 years all the phones cricket carries will work in both AWS and PCS markets.

edit: don't hold me to that. I don't work for cricket or have any knowledge of their product plans beyond the next few months.

Not Deceraber. It's 1st quarter 08. Of course there is a launch date, but I can't tell you quite yet. Don't want to have to kill all of you :D

But it's definately not Deceraber 1st.

Even Q1 2008 is a stretch IMHO. Considering that this will be the very first AWS market to launch ever, by any carrier, there'll be a lot of unknowns, not just with the hanRABets, but with BS equipment, antennas, fine tuning, etc. This will not go as smoothly as the recently launched PCS markets. There will have to a learning curve and some hurdles to cross. Mark my worRAB!

In all honesty, how much harder is this launch gonna be than all the European 3G 2100 launches were? The frequencies are similar (1700 probably has similar reach to 1900, and AWS 2100 is basically a slightly smaller subset of European 2100), and since it was a CDMA tech they used (UMTS), it can't be that hard for Cricket to hire network engineers experienced in 3G rollouts in Europe or wherever to help manage their AWS rollouts? IIRC, that's what T-Mo is doing with theirs, bringing over some from their European arms to help that rollout.
