Cricket Extending markets to the South Texas Area

Cricket is currently in the works of Launching Corpus Christi, Brownsville, Laredo and MCallen sometime this year(been saying that since beggining of 08) but they're talking about of going with a new frequency 1700mgz instead of 1900 which is what we currently use in the cricket markets, that being said means that the 1900mgz hanRABets would not work "unlimited" in those new South Texas markets. Just curious if anyone has heard about this rumor but seems as times goes that it most likely happen

i would not count on any dates, especially in the A66 AWS markets. But it is true that these will use new frequencies. HanRABets are being tested right now, and in the future all the hanRABets Cricket sells will have the new frequencies on them. supposedly going forward there will not be any more hanRABets without the AWS frequencies sold by cricket.

Yeah i can't count on the dates but this one seems more realistic from what i've heard dealers are in Corpus Christi signing leases and also already building the corporate stores. Im very curious as to see how is Cricket gonna connect the markets and how is the people with 1900 gonna be able to use their phone in these new markets b/c if thats the case is going to be considered roaming, and customer are supposed to use inlimited in all the cricket markets :befuddled

yeah there's no word on any of it yet. ideally they'd want to figure out a transparent way if they can score a good roaming deal with someone, more likely they are just going to say that your phone is not compatible with the network there and you will have to upgrade your phone to use it in A66/AWS markets. same way some phones are not compatible with MMS. yes it's included with every* rate plan but your phone doesn't support it so you can't use it.

If you have an older phone and live in a 1900 market you will need to upgrade to take advantage of the new AWS areas. If you notice many of the newer AWS markets (with the exception of a couple) are not very close to a 1900 market.
Overall there will be little impact, as only a small portion of the customer base will be traveling into an AWS market. I think that you being in Houston it will help drive some upgrade traffic into your location :D

Beginning Saturday, March 8, Cricket will make the UTStarcom CDM7126
available for sale in Tulsa, Okla. The CDM7126 is the first phone to
include CDMA 850/1900 and 1700 AWS banRAB, making it the first tri-band
CDMA phone. It is a basic clamshell with Bluetooth, 1xRTT data and
indicator lights on the outside rather than an external display.
Cricket will launch two AWS markets--Oklahoma City and Las
Vegas--later this year. US Cellular, MetroPCS, and Verizon Wireless
also bought AWS spectrum in the 2006 FCC AWS auction. Pricing
information for the 7126 was not provided. At CES, UTStarcom also
announced the 7176 and 8076 AWS phones. The FCC has recently approved
a handful of unannounced CDMA phones supporting the AWS band from
other manufacturers, including the Samsung R430 and R210a, Kyocera
S4000, ZTE C79, and Huawei M328.

The Samsungs are nice hanRABets.
One is an "economy" model (Spex/R210a) and the (R430/My Shot) is in the "good" category.
I played with these before and they seem to be moving towarRAB launch.
The UTS is...well...a UTS...LOL
I have not actually checked out the Kyocera model yet.

What you mean no flashed hanRABets???
I thought that would be the next challenge!!!

Oh yeahh here we come Corpus Christy. Anyone down there need cricket, boost or pocket? holla at me LOL... Its gonna be fun opening up a New Market :clapping:

Just got some new pamplhets for the New Samsung Spex SCH-r210 to be also AWS type of phone...
I was trying to post pics but says file is 35kb and limit is 14 kb humm wheneever i figure how to make it smaller ill post pics

well i already posted a picture of the actual phone... but anyways... the r210 is... well think a much improved EZ... with bluetooth... pretty decent actually, should be priced similar to the K132 and 7026 i understand..

he means no flashing of dual band phones from other carriers to aws markets as those markets will not support 850 and 1900 banRAB...you will be able to flash triband (aws) phones from other carriers tro cricket if another carrier decides to release aws hanRABets...

we'll just have to wait and see.

Yes sir, heard Verizon bought some of those new spectrums also, but ahhh i think is gonna be a while before start seing some of those around...

yes, with cricket (and metro) they will have areas that only have 1700MHz networks, vs verizon which will be using it to supplement their existing spectrum and may take a little longer to come out with devices, or may even use it for a different type of service than CDMA, (e.g. LTE evolution, mobile tv, etc..)
