Cravings

Usually it's easy to tell what one is craving. But what if something is
missing and you just don't know what you want? The usual food isn't it.
Ticking off options in your head doesn't trigger what you want. If it
isn't craved, it isn't wanted, so just cooking a meal isn't cutting it.

Try the universal solution: chocolate. Dark chocolate. Belgian dark

That doesn't happen to me very often, but what usually solves the
problem it is anything cooked by someone else... a restaurant meal
will do, even if it's ordered in. Or maybe you need a stiff drink.
That will cure what ails you. ;)

I understand that feeling. We call it the "can't help its". I
don't know what I want and I just can't help it.

They say you crave whatever it is you are allergic to.

They are THE dessert folks in StL. Expensive, and nothing but the
finest ingredients. I hope you find what you crave before you fill up
on other stuff trying to rule it out.

Man! Do I love bacon! I haven't eaten any in 13 years, but the smell
of it alone is like ambrosia for the soul!

Except to most vegetarians. My niece, her mom, (my sister), and my
brother are all vegetarians. You should see their faces when they
smell meat cooking... :), its actually funny to me! All scrunched up
like someone farted a really bad one! It makes me laugh every time!

That's what my mom says about her food allergies.

Me? Never! I don't crave anything that makes me sick.

Usually I don't crave anything at all. I did once crave tabouli. For a
couple of weeks I couldn't get enough of it. A blood test showed I was low
in magnesium. Tomatoes and parsley are high in magnesium. After the two
weeks the thought of eating it just didn't sound so great. I haven't eaten
it since.

When I was a kid I would sometimes crave sweets. I read somewhere that
eating dill pickle or brushing your teeth would take the craving away. As a
kid, I hated to brush my teeth. The dill pickle did work though! I don't
know why.

Here are some interesting websites but they only apply to specific cravings:

When I was a vegetarian I ate soy bacon and I liked it! Until the time we
were staying in a motel and I cooked in an unfamiliar microwave. Ooooh the
smell! I've never eaten it since. And that's probably a good thing.

The first time I went vegan and relapsed, I went right
for the bacon because it was my favorite. But I had
been vegan long enough I really was repulsed by the
residue of fat it left on my pot. I really had to scrub
to get rid of it.

both have validity, people who begin agressive low carbbing crave anything
with carbs, a friend who ate little meat had to eat low protien for a health
condition for a few months, she started dreaming of steak... i crave full
fat cheese and am allergic, Lee

We haven't gone vegan or even vegetarian, but we've cut way back on
red meat and bacon is almost non-existent in our lives anymore. I
can't even remember the last time I cooked it. I've had 4 slices of
really good, thick butcher shop bacon sitting in my freezer for months
now "just in case" I need some bacon in a recipe. However, I didn't
even bother with it the last time I made baked beans and they didn't
taste like anything was missing. So that was a real indication to me
on how much we've cut back.
