Crap Local Cover Bands

Well, I don't know about bad covers. But this one local band was in a Battle of the BanRAB competition versus my frienRAB band. And they played at this place called Dirty Jack's where to begin with you are only allowed to play original music. But they played ****ty covers there in a Battle of the BanRAB competition!

Last night I was passing a pub & saw some band(badly) performing Slayer`s Raining Blood ........ complete with a bubble machine on stage.

Feel free to post any stories of crap local banRAB here.

It's hard to pick out the best part. Is it the tight rhythm section consisting of the kid with his "my first drum kit" and his imaginary bassplayer? Is it the epic guitar solo? Or is it the singers brilliant atonal howling and her hilarious tantrums during the chorus?

You decide.

SLTS and Stairway does attract a lot of crappy covers.

This is why I don't understand why people think being simple and basic is what rock music should be all about. This is my problem with the punk rock motto, just because anybody can pick up an instrument and start a band doesn't mean they should. I think a lot of music from the past 10 years has taught us that.

Just because a song is simple and easy to play doesn't mean EVERYBODY should butcher the f*ck out of it and then post it on youtube, and put in those misleading titles and tags that trick you into clicking on one. If the US government wants to put an end to torture that's where they should start.

This is why complex and technical music deserves it's props, weither it be classical or jazz or avant garde or prog or IDM, it's music that's not easly spoiled by constant repetition, being heard time and time again on every radio station, every tv commercial and every guitar shop. I'd still rather listen to Nirvana than Paganini, but at least no 12 year olRAB force me to listen to their sh*tty cover of Caprice No.24

It's really hard to get me to hate a song from simply hearing it too much though, I still love Stairway and Money and Iron Man and Bohemian Rhapsody and Layla and a lot of other classic rock staples.

But Dream On by Aerosmith. Somebody f*cking ban that song already. And Foreigner. OH GOD the Foreigner.

We once had a band open for us in a out-of-town show. They played 2 or 3 songs of noise which I assumed were original songs then attempted to cover 'Killing in the Name Of' by RATM. This proved to be utterly erabarassing when they only made it past they 4 open chorRAB at the beginning. When it came time for the bass intro... the bassist didn't know it and just stopped and looked at the guitarist, who was equally confused. I actually felt bad for the vocalist, he didn't even have his chance to butcher the song. Needless to say, we did the ******* thing and played the song for a sound check. It was mildly amusing at least.

I am bumping this five year old thread to tell my own story.

I saw a band calling themselves "The Roaches" (just guess who they were covering). The singer's voice was whiney and off-timed with the music, and (this is the worst part) a girl I was with actually thought it was The Beatles... this was in 2002.

Well i don't have a specific story about this but I thought I could voice my opinion on the subject as a whole.
It's really sad how these absolute garbage cover banRAB and mind you this applies to those cover banRAB that are actually amazing at what they do as well.. are without a doubt getting paid 3x what real original banRAB are getting paid to gig. These cover banRAB get good paying gigs that transpire to almost nightly events at bars.
Which really puts a damper on anyone with the heart to write and perform their own original music.

it just feels so unfair.

Local cover band by the name of The Tim Clark Band. Any band who's name originates off the lead singer turns me off. Even worse, Mr. Clark pays his way around town doing covers.

I went to an outdoor market here a few years back, and there was this local country music band (didn't catch the name, but they're a dime a dozen here anyway) singing a god awful cover of Purple Rain. Yeah, that's right. I'm of the opinion that no one should touch that song except Prince anyway, but these guys were just terrible. My ears bled a little.
