Cracked finger tips on both hands

:wave::wave:I am a 53 year old married woman with a daughter, age 22, who lives at home with her dog, and a son, age 21, who is away at college except for coming home at breaks. I am in my second marriage to a wonderful, supportive, loving man. I was previously married for 18 years.

Beginning about 3 weeks ago,the tips of all my fingertips began to crack and bleed. My Pharmacist said to use Neosporin on the affected areas, along with Vaseline all over my both hands at night, and to wear gloves.

I have been doing this for 4 days and have only received a little relief. It is very painful and hurts even worse when I get them wet.

Any suggestions for me?

Hi jewelbarb,
I have had the same problem with my hands for years. My Dr. prescribed halobetasol propionate cream,0.05% and it helps so much. If you continue to have this problem, I suggest that you have your Dr. do some testing on your liver. I'm going in Jan. because my liver enzymes are high. Are your fingernails looking strange at all? Hope this helps. God Bless You and Yours Today and EveryDay precious49

I have those same cracks on my fingertips every darn winter. And you are right, they hurt like heck. I have had them for years. It seems no matter what I put on them the only thing that works is time. In about a week or so they heal up and are fine. That is until another crack appears. I usually get about five or so of them. I do wash my hands allot and I think that the soap and then the dry air in winter is what makes the cracks appear for me.
If your doctor does come up with something that works for you please share it. I would love to try it.

A & D Ointment works well on fingertip cracks caused by dry skin or hands in water too much.

I put onintment on fingertips and wear cotton gloves to bed or wrap the finger to keep ointment off of sheets, etc. Takes only a day or two to feel much better. Do this until the cracks are healed.

Avoid doing things that will pull the cracks open. Wear protective gloves when working in the kitchen or cleaning things with cleaners, etc.

This happens to me only in the winter.

Yes, they hurt big time!! Have a thumb now in process of healing.

There is a product out there called "Bag Balm" that was originally used for exactly what it sounds like - cows udders. It works pretty well, my Grandmother taught me about it when I was a kid. If your hands are really bad you can put it on before bed and put cotton gloves over it. I don't remember who makes it, but I've seen it at some of the big chain pharmacies around here. Also try to use rubber gloves when doing dishes, cleaning, etc.
