I had aproblem with an ipod touch 3g 3.1.3 at first.
jb with spirit and couldn't run patch,
this was because i didnt have AFC2add installed.
all i did was open cydia and search for AFC2add and installed it
and i didnt have wifi on.
works 100%

if you are having problem with 4.0 patch don't use it at the moment,i will look into it for the issue.stay tuned for update.

i used this patch on my 3G,working fine.

It will work in both cases,but better to close iTunes.
