I wanted to sell my bicycle and had a coworker who wanted it, however, she did not have the money and refused to pay later. After a couple of months I told her I was going to put it on E-Bay and she said she would take it and pay in September. It is now December and she has not acknowledged this transaction.

I know that I should just approach her but have great difficulty asking for money, even in this situation. Any suggestions would be welcome.

You cant be a pushover! You need to tell her about it now. Then she is just taking advantage of you. If you dont want to confront her, send her a professional looking bill with the cost of the bicycle. That way she knows you haven't forgotten and she still owes you. If this goes on even after you sent her the bill, speak up. Tell her "Its been months since you took the bicycle and I don't know if you misunderstood, but it wasn't free."

Inform her she is in possession of stolen property, you are going to file a police report and take her to court unless she returns it that day, then follow through. Don't let her intimidate you, she is a cheap thief. You can also start talking about this at work so everyone knows what she did.

Do you have a contract? If so you can let the law handle it. She essentially stole the bike. Go to the police station and explain the situation. However, the easier thing to do would be to suck it up and confront her yourself. Tell her that you need the money for the bike and legal action will be taken if she doesn't comply.

Just tell her that you really need the money for the bike and if she cannot afford to pay, you need the bike back so you can list it on ebay. If she says that she will pay, decide on a time line, have her sign a promissory note and leave it alone.

No big deal---just tell her the truth.

Have you already given her the bike? If not, go ahead and sell it as she's obviously not wanting to pay you for it. (It sounds like she wants to wait until you completely forget about the money so she can get a free bike).

If she already has the bike, as harsh as this sounds, report it stolen.
