Cowboy Bebop - Ending Credits question

OK, when Cowboy Bebop played on Adult Swim, when they played the ending credits, some versions had them play it with English subtitles (which would make sense, since the sung is sung in Japanese), whereas others have it subbed in Japanese (which seems more like closed captioning).

Is there a particular reason for this? A glitch on the dubbers part or are the different versions exclusive to different episodes (I never actually sat down to point out which episodes do which subbed version).

Now some episodes, I notice, they play the video at fast forward while they play the song at normal speed (which would make sense. I don't wanna hear The Real Folk Blues covered by Japanese Chipmunks). But I would suppose thats jsut for time.

Nevertheless..

1) I believe they played sped-up video with song so that they could allow more commercials, I think.

2) It was probably something that just happened, subbed, or non-subbed, it just was there. Probably changed once in a while so people could see each version? (im not too sure)
 
It's a pretty longstanding tradition with anime release studios to alternate between lyrical translation subtitles and lyrical romanization subtitles from episode to episode, allowing viewers to both understand the worRAB and sing along to them.
 
There were also several weeks in the first and second runs where AS would only play either the left or the right audio channels during Real Folk Blues, making it sound somewhat different each time.
 
Buy or rent the DVD's and all will finally make sense. In case this isn't a option, then here's what's going on. The real version of this ending is sped up on Cartoon Network. You see all of the video but only hear part of the music for the ED (which is better than what they do with the new anime shows these days). The lyrics do alternate between English and Japanese for each episode on the DVRAB, on a sub track that runs OP/ED lyrics and signage subs (many companies do this on their DVD's). For CN's version, IIRC, they harRABubbed the lyrics onto the shortened ED, which makes them speed through too fast (they're ahead of the actual singing).

Now I believe with Cowboy Bebop you can turn off all subs if you like. Which is better than Outlaw Star, where the first few volumes of the DVD have the lyrics harRABubbed onto the OP/ERAB and you can't turn them off (but they did fix that in later volumes).
