Here's the situation in brief form.

I have a son who was raised for almost 13 years by my ex husband. My ex is on the birth certificate paid child support all these years, and he has his name.He is the only one he has ever known as his father. His 'real' father walked out on me when I was pregnant never to be found until he was 12 and now he wants to establish paternity. My son HATES this man (he met him twice) and wants my ex husband to remain his legal father. Anyways, the court is appointing a GAL and the problem is, I simply don't have the money for the fees. I live in IN not sure the laws here about not being able to pay the fees. My ex husband paid more on his part for the attorney who represents us and honestly, I am not sure how much he can put into the fees for the GAL either. Anyone know what we can do because I simply can't pull the money out of my tail or pick it off of the trees. The attorney does not seem to understand this fact.

GAL fees are usually split 50/50 unless you ex makes significantly more than you or you can demonstrate to the court that you can't afford it (out of work, home in forclousure ect.) a simple case like this should not cost more then 1000$ total (maybr less). The GAL will me with you your son and your ex seperately. And issue a finding to the court. Goodluck
