Countdown - so much better these days!

And how much do they get paid for working just one day a week? I know Jeff Sterling does other things, but what about Rachel and Suzie?

I can appreciate your feelings in para 1 as sometimes I have difficulty in hearing what contestants say.
You could try subtiles to see if that helps. :):)

I have always liked Suzie

I was hoping that Mark would beat Oliver and he nearly did, unfortunately that means that the final will now consist of nerdy geeks.

That was great. :D You could tell the contestant was going for it once the 'essa' came out. :)

I never used to watch it during the two Des' era but now I record it everyday and watch it when I get in. :)

Jeff Stelling has probably the hardest job in tv presenting Soccer Saturday so it's good to see him given a chance to present a more relaxed show.

Is it just me that loves the way Rachel turns round in between the contestants selecting letters? :o It puts me off finding worRAB. :D

The most beautiful woman on TV, hanRAB down (though my hanRAB are up, I promise you, unlike some people's on here and indeed in the youtube comments:D...).

She get more gorgeous day by day, how is this possible???

The new girl has a lop-sided smile which is something of a distraction, and I haven't ever seen her successfully solve a numbers problem, and she shouldn't wear six-inch stiletto heels because then she can't stand up straight and she's all bent at the knees so it's no wonder she can't get the numbers right when she can hardly even stand up.

The boy who is on a winning streak just now - the maths student - he should become an actor, because he has an interesting face and he could become one of the greatest character actors of his generation. He's very laid back, whereas the numbers girl is very laid-forward on account of those stilettos.

I think Jeff's great, and I don't really care what the numbers girl is like. The new one doesn't have Vorderman's strong personality (yet), which may or may not be a good thing.

Anyway, I think just about any TV show would be improved by not having Des O'Connor in it -- hell, even Des O'Connor Tonight would have been better without Des O'Connor -- so I much prefer the new Countdown. It's years since I watched the show regulalry, but it's now back on my DVR's list of things to record, because it seems fresher and much more fun, like the good old days.

As for Richard Whiteley, I sense a certain rose-tinted nostalgia here. Was he really that good? I always thought he had a touch of Alan Partridge about him. I liked how he was intelligent and well-read but didn't show it, but I also found him just a little bit... creepy.

Jeff Stelling could maybe ditch the corny start-of-show routines, but otherwise he's an excellent host.

I beat her today at this: 2, 9, 9, 5, 4, 4 => 637, and I'm normally hopeless with six small numbers.

So, probably not as good as she could be. But I doubt anyone cares...

That's not correct.

When the conundrum has multiple possible solutions (as long as they fit the rules of the game), any of those solutions can be used.

I'd imagine they'd reveal the one they were aiming for and then say something like "However, word x is also valid".

This has happened a few times, although I've never seen it.
