Countdown - so much better these days!

I had to laugh when Jeff said 'please get more than 5' when the first set of letters went up.
And the look he gave to camera when the he asked the first guy what his 5-letter word was - classic. :D

You hit the nail on the head, Carman. 30 secs isn't very long, especially when you're a contestant (or Rachel) under pressure, and once you've started off down the wrong route, there's no time to backtrack and try something else.
I remember a good contestant from a couple of years back who said that either he saw the answer immediately, or not at all.

Thought Tim Vine was hilarious on Countdown.....first time I've laughed whilst watching the show I think (I don't watch it that often, maybe once a week, wish I'd watched it more this week now!).

And yes, totally agree.....the show in general is miles better with the new team. I can even tolerate Jeff Stelling and the way he resists trying not TO SHOUT in every episode :D

As for Rachel Riley.....what a lovely girl! She's a breath of fresh air compared to Vorderman.

I think we can predict the eventual winner in that long haired Goth fella.

I mean fergawRABake, should anyone but a front bottom Doctor really know how to spell Perineum ?

It's not a word a bloke uses every day.

Re- the word that they missed

all they had to do was say I've got a six but i can't say it at this time on national tv so is it ok if I demonstrate it on Rachel instead?

Give me the Welsh accent over Cockney any time!!

Mind you I must admit to a certain bias as altho I am not Welsh myself I have lived in Wales for the past 20+ years.

Tbh where I live in North Wales I'd never hear people talking like that but on local TV or if the odd South Walian moved to our area I might do.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw todays outfit. Come on guys you're slipping? Did no one else catch todays very short and very tight skirt. Wow!!!!!!

Great contest, I was hoping the other guy would win but, fair play to the long haired morose one, he never gave up.

Sleepsuit .....EH?

If that's a word, I'm a ********.

Carol did it too. They have to emphasise certain letters for the blind people who play Countdown at home.
There was actually a blind contestant on Countdown quite a few years ago.

That was it! Classic Richard. :D

They do seem to manage to recover quickly from any slightly amusing or awkward moments! Last week, following a particularly poor selection of letters, Kate who had a female partner, was only able to make the word poofters! :o She had no choice as the points were important. A little embarrassed, she said something like, I'm going to be teased for this back at the office. Jeff and co. moved swiftly on. :)

If anyone has seen Tim Vine live or on DVD then he has a brilliant act, I think on Countdown he hasn't been at his best, but considering whats thrown at him then he does well to come up with something quite quick.
