I have the same problems when I eat cantaloupe, fresh pineapples, fresh tomatoes, watermelon, and some times strawberries.
Immediately my mouth breaks out in hives, usually on the insides of my lips; they will swell a bit and feel tingly. My tongue will also feel like pins and needles.
I can eat cooked tomatoes, pineapples, etc...but fresh will often cause these problems. There are days when I can eat them fresh and I'll feel fine...there are other days when I can't eat anything that's touched those fooRAB. I take 24-hour Claritan-D (sp) (store brand as well) daily, and it still impacts me. Usually Benadryl will help relieve the symptoms, but I can't take a full tablet during the day because it makes me extremely sleepy. I suffer from seasonal allergies, as well as these allergies (and I'm also apparently allergic to chigger bites it seems, as I've recently been bitten by them and have a HUGE welt on my arm, and my hand is swollen as well as a bit of tightness in the throat.)
Funny thing is, I NEVER had these sensitivities before - they just surfaced in the last year or so! I almost wonder if it has to do with the amount of antibacterial cleaners and good we subject ourselves to on a regular basis and it's affected our body's ability to tolerate these things.
Best of luck dealing with these sensitivities!!!
