could this be cause by anxiety?

I've been experiencing an odd shortness of breath. I say it's odd, because it's really this sensation of being extremely conscious of breathing and feeling a little like I can't breathe properly. But when I am very distracted, and not thinking about breathing, then I seem to be fine.
Could this be anxiety related? Or do I need to see a doctor because there could be something physical? It started just a few days ago and it seems like all day long, I'm thinking about breathing and feeling like I'm short of breath. Unless, as I said, I've been briefly distracted by something, but then it's back.

I'm getting more and more anxious about it, which i am sure isn't helping.

Thanks for anyone's insight.

Most probably this is caused by anxiety, especially since you say when you're distracted there's not a problem. When you're anxious you tend to hold your breath or hyperventilate without even realizing it. The more you think about it the worse it is :)

I have the exact same thing. I think it is anxiety related, if I don't think about it I'm fine but then I start thinking about it and there it goes.

Good Luck.

i too think it is anxiety related. try meditating or do yoga it will help to a certain extent.
